I have a serious complaint. I live in Northern Kentucky but Vonage does not have any area codes available for this area or Cincinnati. Therefore my area code is a Lexington KY area code and all my friends and neighbors here in Northern Kentucky have to dial long distance to call me, even if they live next door. LAME

Welcome to the club. You're one of many. Vonage has my Area Code, but if I use it most folks (locally) will incur long distance charges.

Hopefully, this will change as time goes by. It is frustrating.

I understand that Lingo doesn't have as much of this problem. I know they offer local area codes in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. How do they compare service wise to Vonage?

Just out of curiosity, what area code did you have when you were using the local PSTN service? Do your neighbors also have this same area code? Is it the same area code that is not available through Vonage?

I think that I would be a bit perturbed as well. I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't. I do know that a list of current Vonage area codes can be found in the pull down menu on the upper left of this page above the Vonage Business Voip advertisement. I hope you can find what you're looking for, or at least second best.

We have a similar problem out here. All the available area codes and phone numbers have become, "Out Of Stock". It's a nationwide problem. The telephone number pool is almost depleted. Good luck.

Mike

I'm not a Lingo subscriber, but Packet 8 also provides local exchange numbers for Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati. I am currently using there 30 day trial and have no problems with it. Voice quality is better than Cincinnati Bell POTS service in my area in Northern KY. I tried to sign up for Vonage over a year ago and they couldn't provide my with a local Northern KY Cincinnati exchange in the 859 area code. Lexington is all they have currently which is also a 859 area code.

I too feel the pinch! The list of numbers on this Web site is horribly out of date. It is much smaller now. I signed up in January. The sales rep told me they were constantly expanding the list and my area code would be available any day now. I live in central Oregon, (541) I took a temporary number in San Diego, a 1000 miles away. Try explaining that to the neighbors!

It seems that the cell people, the copper wire people, Lingo, and Packet8 don't have any problems aquiring Area codes/calling centers. Only Vonage, and they will not give you a straight answer if you call them. I'm soon going to lose faith and go with Packet8. Heck it's cheaper anyway. The only reason I have been hnging on is that Vonage has been working flawless for me.

Funny thing, I referred two folk to Vonage. Both of them looked into it and then signed up with Packet8 because of the area code coverage! "Heads Up Vonage"

Vonage has the 859 area code but it's a Lexington exchange, not a northern Kentucky exchange which IS long distance for my next door neighbor to call. It's a pain in the ass

I believe that it all comes down to money. Vonage may not want to pay the fees for the phone number and area code transfers.

Your probably right mate, but if their competitors are offering them and for less money, I don't see the longrange outcome as being good. All them goofy TV ads just aern't going to do it when the word gets out.
