With all the complaining about Vonage customer service - I thought I would note my recent experience:

1. Asked Vonage to port a second number from SBC. Expected massive delay as SBC is not exactly "VoIP friendly."

2. Five days later, port is completed!

3. Slight glitch with voicemail on ported line. Called Vonage, tech answers on first ring, 30 minutes later - problem solved.

Doesn't get much better than this! Very Happy Very Happy

I'll pipe in here too. I'm a new customer.

Signed up March 8th, LNP transfer was done May 4th. Not too quickly but ok, and (they said via email) they are crediting my account for a month due to the delay in transfer, as well as another month for signing up under the refer-a-friend program.

Service was fairly straightforward to set up and is working fine, including call waiting, voicemail, caller ID, etc.

I have the Vtech i5857 with 3 handsets and it works fine, voicemail lights / status works, etc.

Very happy with the service so far.

I think most people are happy with the service, from what I am reading.

The exceptions are:

1. Those with poor cable service.

2. Shills from the telcos bashing Voip.

3. Folks trying to do esoteric things.

I've learned long ago to avoid #3. Follow the well-worn path.

I'm freaking estatic, so far. I disconnected one telco line yesterday and the other is not far behind. Pulled the plug on two lines in Florida as well.

I'm using Comcast Broadband in NE Mass.

Sounds about like my experience. Once you get over the install hurdle, it runs on auto-pilot.

One thing I do NOT UNDERSTAND about the Vonage-bashers is why they don't just GO AWAY.

Vonage is an ALTERNATIVE to conventional phone lines. If it doesn't work out, then go back to a conventional phone line!

I mean, that option is always there.

I think the greatest thing about Vonage and Voip in general, is that even if it is not for you, it gives the telcos real competition. They will be forced to compete on price and service from now on.

I expect that at least one telco might go bankrupt as a result. This would be a good thing, as the telco could then re-negotiation these obscene union contracts and re-organize as a competitive company, much as the airlines are doing now.

Dish network and the like does the same thing for cable. Yea, maybe the dish is not all that great, but the mere presence of it in the marketplace keeps the cable folks honest.

And since Dish TV and its ilk have become popular, cable TV service (and pricing) has become a LOT more competitive.

Competition = Good.

Monopoly = Communism = Bad.

So even if Voip doesn't work for some folks, it still is a good thing.

(I still have one POTS line connected. The sound quality **** compared to Vonage!).

Sometimes I get bored coming on this forum. There are just too many people whining and complaining about Vonage. I post the answer to their problem and it gets ignored. They continue to whine and complain.

They are like little children throwing a temper tantrum because they want what they want NOW. Lately, I find myself spending more time on BBR where people demonstrate a marked intelligence about the subject they are writing about. The webmaster will not tolerate any nonsense, off the forum you go with your offensive post

I'm glad to see that there are at least you folks on this forum who can demonstrate a respectable IQ. Thank you. I needed to hear you guys.

In four months, I've had one serious problem with my adapter. It was beyond the understanding of technical support. So, I did the troubleshooting myself. I found that there was a weakness in the telephone output circuitry. Voltage and current were too low to run a telephone. Nevertheless, I got the attention of the engineers at Vonage and they are working to find out how it got that way and how to keep it from getting worse.

It took a week, but it's fixed now. I still get e-mails from engineers who want more info. Meanwhile, those others who also had this problem whined and complained and never listened to my posts telling them how to fix it. They were more interested in whining. They are all gone now. They canceled their service. Pathetic!

haha, yeah, you've got 5 posts going on over there, no one has replied to any of them, and that's a busy forum. including your ground breaking one way audio discovery. hint hint.
if you don't like it here then leave instead of constantly whining about the whiners, crying a river, and then singing your own praises in every post.
