I have the Brother MFC 7820N. Brother tells me there is no way to adjust the baud rate with the firmware. I read up this page that someone changed the phone cord from a 4 wire to a 2 wire telephone cord (essentially)

(Have a Brother MFC 7820N. It would hardly ever work. We switched the telephone cable from a 4-line to a 2-line and it now faxes 25-page faxes without a problem.

All settings are default.)

Any ideas?

What do I search for. No results for 'baud rate' and this is for other models.

Appendix 2, WSW19. You also need to read chapter 5.

BTW, if you are afraid of playing with equipment, this is not for you.

I'll check it out. The support person at Brother did dig up a setting. Between High, Normal and Basic and had me set to basic. He had no idea what this would do. Can't find any info.

As for attempting this sort of thing it's what I'm all about and how I got started. The Dell unit I had before was able to select actual baud settings. This Brother unit is much smaller and better and I'm suprised of what I've run into. I'll check out the manual you mentioned.

************

hmm...doesn't look like it will work. Can't use the options in manual to enter maintenance mode on this model.

Try setting it to basic. I imagine they will have some sort of firmware upgrade down the road. This unit is quite new.

Wow, after about 15 tries I got into maint. mode on my 7820n. You have to be REAL fast with the buttons, I suggest you use two hands and move fast. Once in maint. mode I found the correct settings to downgrade the baud rate.

I will test it over the next few days and report back...

That would be great. I'd like to know the results. I haven't really done any testing at all and am curious as to how it will work.
