Have a Brother MFC 7820N. It would hardly ever work. We switched the telephone cable from a 4-line to a 2-line and it now faxes 25-page faxes without a problem.

All settings are default.

I had a Brother FAX-560 that I could never get to work reliably with my Vonage fax line. I could usually receive OK but couldn't send faxes but to a handful of other faxes. I'd tried all the tricks from the forums here and still could never make it work.

I finally decided to replace it and my (nozzle-clogging) Epson All In One with a Canon Pixma MP780 and haven't had a problem faxing since. I left the TX/RX starting speed at 33.6k and it still works like a champ. Not sure I'm actually faxing at those speeds as the unit is supposed to drop back to lower speeds as necessary, but it sure seems like the faxes get through pretty quickly to me.

So if you're looking for an AOI with fax capabilities, I'd definitely put this on your list. I found it at OfficeMax for $199, which is about $100 below the retail and about $50 below what most internet retailers are selling it for.

Have you called Brother about reducing the machine's baud rate? There may very well be some hidden setting that they might tell you about.

No need to call Brother:

Does anybody know how to adjust the baud rate of a Brother Intellifax 4100? It's a great machine but not working too well with Vonage. I put a DSL filter on the line, put on overseas mode, asked Vonage customer care to hop up the packet size to "30" but still having trouble sending faxes. Any ideas?

I used this document to change the baud rate on mine:

At my dad's house we had the cable company send a tech - not sure if he did much of anything though - I think the biggest problem was that his internet was very inconsistent - as tested by internetfrog.com the line quality was low and the transmission speed was low and the max dealy time was long (over 1000ms) - since then his internet connection quality and consistency has improved and his faxing has also improved. Not sure yet if his SupraEkey is working yet on the VoIP line - should know in a few days.
