Mini1

There has been some talk about them on this forum, do some searching for more info. (btw i'm not trying to be a smart a$$)

The price is nice, but i do not trust my broadband that much (to be up 24/7 365) Also if you are really paranoid you might think that someone can cut your phone / cable lines that provide the communication to the monitoring station. I'm a little paranoid. Confused

If it works for you the go for it Very Happy

Mini1,

I agree, the price looks good, but we had our old alarm system working on the Vonage - DTMF configuration change - and we switched to Alarm.com because we wanted the reliability of their wireless link - always up and always on.

Depends on your needs, though. If you are OK with your broadband connection's availability, the price of nextalarm.com is good from a monthly perspective.

Also, make sure and compare features of the Abbra system to GE Security's Concord systems.

Thanks for the reply!
I found some info on nextalarm.com here, but not much. I am willing to trust my broadband connect to save that much money per month. Lets put it this way, using nextalarm.com is basiclly free because of the discount I would get on home owners insurance. Other services would cost my over $100 out of pocket each year.
I found tons of reviews here for almost every service: http://forum.homesecuritystore.com/index.php

I would still like to here from Vonage users that have nextalarm.com monitoring their system via a broadband connection.

I just upgraded my old ITI wireless system to Alarm.com through my local security company and I love it. It does exactly what it says. I can monitor my house from a remote location and arm and disarm from anywhere via the web. So far so good.

Alarm.Com absolutely **** IMHO.

I tried out this service for aprox. six (6) months before saying this. I've had a multitude of problems.

For starters, my initial delivery didn't include 1/2 of what I ordered, a bad battery and wireless modem amongst other items.

Service was good at first but progressively got worse. There were days where there was a service outage and absolutely nothing worked. I remembre this one day where we accidently set the alarm off at night, around 6pm or so. The central station never called us (surprise, yeah right) so we called them and let them know it was a false alarm.

I was woken up at 6am by 3 police officers pounding on my front door. They said our alarm went off at around 5:56 and got notified by the central station of such and that our phone line was "dead".

Our phone line was _NOT_ "dead", after a LOT of research the central stations computers "screwed" up and wasn't dialing correctly.

The reason there was even a dispatch was because they didn't log the phone call the night before and they didn't get the alarm signal until 6am... 12 HOURS LATER.

This is just one time of such a screw up from them, there have been other times this has happened as well and I simply do NOT trust them.

We actually got fines from the police department for so many false alarms that I am going to be taking alarm.com to court to recover the fees.

I've also cancelled my account, and got confirmation of account cancellation yet they continue to bill my credit card.

thanks for your review! long term reviews are what im looking for.

i was thinking of going the self monitoring route with getting other family members in on the list of folks who would get notified of the alarm.
in any event, your review is most helpful and gives me areas to focus on when it comes to getting a new alarm. im still on the fence about alarm .com pretty much because i cant find any good reviews from REAL folks...

FocusOnMBM - Did you use the professional install or ths self install? I was wondering if the problem was with the Simon unit itself as compared to the Concord 4 or if the problem is with Alarm.com reporting system. Thanks!!

I did the self install simon but I don't feel it's the hardware -- The hardware is great. I believe it's the service, the paging network that they use... The customer service, they don't call back. They don't answer e-mails and when they do they're extremely late.

They are obviously a very busy company with a high response that is under staffed.

I never want my alarm company to be under staffed... The monitoring station sounds almost just as bad -- Do you still feel comfortable going to sleep or going on vacation?
