PostPosted: Wed May 04, 2005 7:21 pm    Post subject: Linksys WRT54GP2 unable to establish connection with Vonage. Reply with quote Back to top

I have been having trouble using the Vonage telephone service function on my Linksys WRT54GP2 router. Internet functions have been working fine since I acquired the router in late February 2005. I signed up for Vonage in early March 2005 and initiated two phone number ports for my account. After each port initiation, I was given a temporary number with which I was supposedly able to use while waiting for the ports to complete. After trying power cycling and reconfiguration of my local network, I assumed that I would not be able to use service until the ports were complete.

Well, the first number I tried to port still has not been completed. However, a few days ago, my second number port completed successfully. I have since tried again to power cycle my equipment and reconfiguration of my local network to no avail. Factory resets prove ineffective as well as an attempted firmware upgrade via the tftp bin file posted by another vonage-forum.com member.

Please provide insights on what problem(s) may be causing the inability to connect to the Vonage phone service. No solid lights on the phone 1 or phone 2 indicator has ever been established since opening my account over two months ago. The current firmware is v1.20.01. Thank you in advance for any advice or help you may provide. Have a nice day everyone.

what isp, what network config, what cable modem, so on and so forth. need info besides "can't connect what's wrong"
you did vonage.com/activate ? sounds to me like Vonage has an incorrect mac address for the device.

I have Charter Communications cable service 3Mbps down and either 256k or 384k up (I think it is the 384k up; haven't confirmed with Charter). Cable modem is a Motorola Surfboard 3100. Local network configuration is cable modem to Linksys WRT54GP2 router which has computers connected to it and currently one telephone (tried both telephone ports). There is a second router connected to the first router also with computers connected. The second router should have nothing to do with the issue since I have it behind the first router.

Yes, I did the online "retail activation" for the Linksys WRT54GP2 router when opening my account initially. I did the second number port from that same account. Originally, I double checked the MAC address when opening my account/activating online in early March. I have since checked the MAC address by logging into the router as well and it has never changed (it should not as far as I know).

As far as contacting Vonage, I have emailed them numerous times (at least on four occassions) with my problem and they have never contacted me with a solution (nor even a reply). I recently called the Vonage technical support line (yesterday) and waited on hold for 100 minutes (approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes) for a representative to become available. I would have stayed on longer, however, the cell phone I was using ran out of power and I did not have the charger next to me when the cell phone shut off and my call disconnected. Hopefully someone on this forum can help me out. Thank you for your reply. Have a nice day.

PostPosted: Thu May 05, 2005 11:34 pm    Post subject: MAC Address Confirmation Reply with quote Back to top

Even though there has been only one response to my request for help, I want to thank reebok for the reply. I agree with you, reebok, that it may be a problem with the MAC address being entered incorrectly. The thing is, I have not been able to contact Vonage to get confirmation that they do indeed have my MAC address. I joined this forum as I have attempted other means of addressing this problem.

Does anyone know the best way of contacting Vonage customer support or are there any Vonage representatives able to assist me on this forum?

Too bad the MAC address is not accessible via the online dashboard. Hmmm, that's an idea ....

Thank you in advance for any help rendered. Please have a nice night.

Thanks EnJaNir. I will try contacting them directly with a request for help. I assume that they will be able to access my account through Vonage's system. Is that correct? Have a nice day!
