Last week my caller id started showing up sometimes without the 1 in front of the number. I know it is suppoed to have the 1 but as of last week, not always.
I called Tech support today and he said it was on my end and that I would have to correct it. I asked how and he said he was not for sure because he was not here at my location. Please help! Thanx!

if you were as vague with him then maybe that's part of the problem.
what phone? what numbers? (local, ld, other Voip, Vonage to Vonage, cell) any pattern at all? anything change recently? (like a new Vonage adaptor?)

It can be from another Vonage user, from a cell phone or landline. I have not changed anything. I refuse to change anything unless it is broken. If it works, continue that setup. No new adapter. I just signed up less than a month ago. RT31P2

I noticed this thismorning for the first time, altho when i looked back in my CID history it happened once before, both times it happened were calls to my Columbia Virtual Number, from numbers in SC, funny thing is, that those same numbers are on the CID a day before/after with the 1.. I tried calling both my numbers from my cell and it had the 1 both times..

I would rpefer it w/o the 1, cuz it displays nicer (uses 803-555-1234, rather than 18035551234) oh well, it doesn't really matter, when I noticed it today I thought maybe they changed it, but after testing and looking back I realized it's just a random 'out of the blue' situation..

calls to my columbia number show more CID name info than calls to my London number too.. weird...

I would jump out on a limb and make this assumption: For those of you who did not see a 1 before your caller ID calls before and are just now seeing it with Vonage, I am going to assume you did an LNP transfer. Am I correct?

nope, I haave had Vonage since Jan, and never changed any numbers or anything, always had 11digit CID, till the other day, my wifes mother called and it's only 10 digits, and today my wifes sister called and it was 10 digits, but a couple days ago when she called it was 11.. and I called both my numbers from my cell and it was 11 digits.. it's a mystery.. I would like to see Vonage go to 10 digit CID, since that all we really need, and thats what most other phone companies use.. my phone would display it nicer too.. lol

We've had the same experience and would like to see the 10 digit CID too!

I have to say that this is a real sore spot with me. Caller ID in the US with all Telephone companies is 10 digit. In the US you cannot have an area code starting with a "1" and area codes are "3" digits only. I have tried to talk to Vonage but they refuse to listen and just blow me off. I have opened two tickets on this issue but they say I am stupid to even notice it. I am in the phone business and have been for more than 20 years and I like Vonage but this is a very sloppy issue with them. They just don't care.

Please note: Vonage is not a normal US telephone company. Vonage is a broadband Voip telephone company. So it really doesn't matter what all the other US phone companies do.

The extra 1 really doesn't bother me. I try not to let the little things annoy me. It makes your life a lot easier and less stressful.

I have been with Vonage a long time now and US phone numbers used to display 10 digits but they changed to whatever format they think is right now. They advertise Caller ID but by definition Caller ID in the US is 10 digits not 11. There is no such thing as an area code starting with a "1". They have to follow the Caller ID rules if they say they offer it. It is not something that you can just make up. I have a lot of equipment that is geared to look at the 3 digit NPA rules of the North American Numbering Plan and Vonage has rendered it useless because they made up their own rules mid game without even letting anyone know. I keep hearing that Vonage is not a traditional telephone company and I agree but they claim to follow the regular standards on this type of spec.
