Please oh please help me. I have just set up a Vonage system that will consist of 4 lines and a fax. at the moment it is just two and a fax but I can't get it to work the way my boss wants it to. I need to take to phone lines coming from my Vonage router and connect them in to one female jack on my phone. See my phone is capable of having four lines but only has 2 jacks, one for line 1 and 2 the other for 2 and 4.
is there something I can buy to make this work? If so what is it called because the 2 outlet modular adapter that i purchased is not doing the job. HELP! Smile

You can buy a phone cable that does that, two lines to one plug. I am holding one in my hand. It came with my phone. Try Radio Shack.

Dan,
Thank you for taking the time to help me but I am going to have to ask you to be more specific if you can. See I have now spent at leats 6 hours on the phone with Vonage, (not a good time), and i have also been into radio shack. I had the entire team trying to help me look for such a device and alas I was sent back to the office with an item that will not work. Do you think you could find a picture of it on the web and add it?
Thank you agin for all of your help.

That might work reebok, if he can plug it into the back of the phone. He might not. I have one of those also, they are bulky.

What I have is a cable that splits, line one and line two. Reveres it and it combines line one and two into one jack.

I will post a photo of it tonight.

Thank you both! Reebok, I tried that, as i theorized that it would work but alas it did not. see it is a 1 -2 adapter and i need a 2 -1 adapter. I hope that the phone cord works but I do nto have high hopes. I think that the problem is that Vonage only uses coper wire 1 and 3, the only way i can get it to wqork id if on line two out of the Vonage jack it uses 2 and 4 and 2 lince cant run on or in to the same coper wire.

Are you capable of crimping RJ-11 plugs?

If so, make 2 custom cords using some Cat-5 cable.

Line 1 cable would have one twisted pair crimped into the middle 2 slots of an Rj-11 plug (on both ends).

Line 2 cable would have one twisted pair crimped into the middle 2 slots of an RJ-11 plug on one end and the other end crimped into the slots on either side of the middle 2 slots.

Plug either end of the Line 1 plug into port 1 of the Vonage adaptor. Plug the other end into the 1-2 adapter in Reebok's post.

Plug the end of the Line 2 cord with the wires in the middle 2 slots into the Vonage adapter and other end into the 1-2 adapter in Reebok's post.

Now plug the adapter into the phone.

K.I.S.S. means Keep It Simple Stupid

Forget all the crimping and splicing.

Get a "RJ11 2 Line Phone Adapter" - example shown at http://www.cablewholesale.com/specs/pa-6p4c-3.htm.

These particular models have L1, L2, L1+L2. The model pictured from Radio Shack does not have it and oddly enough, my local Radio Shack doesn't carry them. HOWEVER, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart all carry it. I would recommend Home Depot as they will definitely have everything else you need.

You will be using L1 and L2 and leaving the L1+L2 jack blank. You will be using this splitter somewhat in reverse of it's original designed intention. Use a plain old silver satin phone cord from L1 and L2 on the jack to you Vonage ports.

Next you will need to have an additional cord or means of extending the single plug side of the adapter to your L1/L2 port on your phone or phone system. IMPORTANT... that extension must have 4 wires in it (Red, Green, Black and Yellow is what you will be able to see in the connector). If you only have Red and Green, use that for the Vonage router connections.

IMPORTANT: If you run this through any existing infrastructure wiring, make sure that the existing wiring is completely disconnected from any old sources (i.e. old telephone services from a local carrier).

I PM'd you to call me if you need further assistance.

Hello,
Thanking you for that help.

I want to know, when making a call, will it go through Line1 or Line 2?

Because, I want to connect my home phone and the box and dont want the call to go through the home phone line but at the same time I want to receive the calls from the home phone line.
