If you have a computer connected to the RT31P2, head over to http://192.168.15.1. The user and pass are both admin. Firmware version is at the top right corner, and clicking status will show the current voice version. The latest firmware is 1.28.00 and the voice version is 2.0.13. |

I've found that I can force a firmware update if I unplug the RT31P2, hold down the reset button, plug it back in, then keep the reset button held down for about 30 seconds. (30 seconds may be longer than necessary, but it works)
You can tell when the update is being applied because the power light starts to blink for a while.
I've used this method to upgrade to 1.27, and later to 1.28, without needing to call Vonage or send private messages or any of that crap. This will erase any of your custom settings though. |

Does this work on a PPPoE connection though? The default configuration is to obtain an IP address automatically. If I follow this procedure, the rt31p2 doesn't find an internet connection. I have to change back to PPPoE, reset and then still no firmware upgrade.

Please be a bit more careful before you post, that's wrong! 1.28.00 is at least a couple releases back. My RT31P2 is running Firmware 1.30.01, dated Sep 2 2005, so its been out for almost 4 months now. Voice version is 3.1.6(LI) |

My firmware is still saying Firmware Version: 1.30.00 My phone suddenly lost its dialtone yesterday and the light is no longer on. The status on the Linksys page says "Router still restarting. Please wait a moment." I've tried powercycling about 3 times and reset twice including doing the one where you unplug and hold down reset while plugging the cord back in. So far nothing has worked and I need my phone . I don't have a cell and noone with a phone is going to be at home for a few days on my floor, any suggetions? |

I have an RT31P2 and just switch broadband services to FIOS (Verizon - Fiber). I had all kinds of trouble even though the fiber is so much faster then the Time Warner I had. When I switched I ran into dropped calls every time I was doing an upload or download. I turned off QOS on this crappy router and everything now works fine. I am switching to VoiceWing anyway as I want a newer router and Vonage refuses to swap it out. I will be stuck with Vonage until Feb 01 as then I have been with Vonage for 1 year and can swap out without penalties. |

Did you change the MTU to 1492?
When set at default my upload speed was about 512kb/s up, when I changed the MTU back to 1492 it went back to almost 2mb/s.
You can check your before and after speed by heading over to http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
