I have one of the Motorola VT1000 ATA running version VT20_01.2.d4. I have disconnected my inside wiring from the Telco box outsdide my house (verified there was no dialtone before I connected the ATA). Then I connected my ATA to a phone jack in the house. When I place a call and there is some silence I hear what sounds like a radio station (music and talk), it does not matter if I am on a cordless or a wired phone. It is somewhat intermittent, I don't notice it all the time. I have Comcast Cable and have the ATA connected directly to the Cable modem.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Look around your house. I suspect you're close to a transmitter tower. On older wiring, this can be a big issue. The newer CAT-5 wiring generally is not as susceptible to Radio Frequency (RF) interference as the old quad-4 (red, green, black , yellow) wiring.
If you have old wiring and a transmitter tower nearby, your only choice may be to get a multi-handset wireless phone setup or rewire your house with CAT-5 wiring.
Good luck! |

Ok, let the bashing begin, but try it, and trust me.
Take a shoebox, line it with tinfoil, and put the MTA in it. |

Sometimes called a Faraday shield. If you can find light sheet metal like 24 gauge or so it will be more effective as tinfoil is aluminum. At least that will isolate where the problem is. |

Don't complain! People have been wanting to add music on hold, and you've inadvertently done it! |

I don't have a transmitter tower around that I can see. But it does make sense, it is not at a constant volume level so I can see how it would be some type of a transmission. (maybe I should get my ears checked). So what is possibly happening is that the wiring in the house (it is old Cat3) is working like an antenna? So how does the signal get converted to actually sounds (music/talk).
I will try to only connect one phone directly to the ATA and see if it goes away.
Thanks for all the good suggestions...
