Scratchy broken up ring, some static. Goes away after first ring.
I tried to record it, but as I said it is intermittent. |

See my original post:

I used to get a scratchy broken up crackle when dialling out through my POST (Verizon or SBC).
Is anybody calling Vonage-Vonage & getting these symptoms or are they all Vonage to POST calls?
Because if it is the POST line that is the problem then it is out of Vonage's hands. |

I get it on Vonage to Vonage calls. At times prior to dialing and at times when picking up to answer a call. |

It probably is something else, but I would make sure that the ethernet cable between the modem and the first router is shielded. |

I have a feeling that this is a valid service issue. |

Now that you mention it I get the same thing. I wouldn't call it a crackling sound, but more like a distortion in the ringing sound. For that matter, my cellphone does the same thing. I haven't paid that much attention to it. Never considered that it might be a Vonage thing.
I'll do some testing in the morning. I'm not going to worry about it, after all, the call still goes through. |

I noticed this issue starting on Saturday 5/7. The first ring on outbound calls is horribly distorted, then the second (and subsequent) ring is normal. I happen to have two ISPs in the house (SBC DSL and Cox Cable internet), and the funky first ring follows the ATA (Linksys PAP2 through a WRT54G WiFi router; DSL Modem is an Efficient Networks unit; Cable modem is a Toshiba PCX-1100). Audio quality once the cal is connected is OK...
DSL circuit is 1.5 down/256 up Cable circuit is 3 down/512 up |

While I have heard this same "crackle" can someone explain to me why this is a problem? (Sincere question - no sarcasm.) To me, I dont care what the ring sounds like as long as when the other side picks up the sound is clear. |

You must not wear a headset. |
