PostPosted: Sat Apr 30, 2005 6:41 pm    Post subject: PAP2 plugged into RT31P2 plugged into Dlink DI-604 Reply with quote Back to top

I have 3 Vonage lines... The PAP2 (2 lines) is plugged into the RT31P2 which is plugged into the Dlink DI-604. The PAP2 isnt working. I must be missing something easy. It sits there with the ethernet light on solid, and the power light flashes 3 times, then goes out for a while...flashes 3 times... out... etc.

I really dont want to change this around, because I use D-link all through my network and (I know the DI-604 is very old, I have a DI-624 I need to RMA) I dont want any PC networking done through the RT31P2. I would have to change IP addresses all over the place.

I have set up the RT31P2 to have a static IP address but its not working right.

Anybody know why the PAP2 cant connect?

TIA,
Matt

Matt,

It would be particularly helpful if you could explain some properties of your various devices. I.e. Is the DI-604 DHCP enabled? Is it obtaining IP addresses automatically? Is it cloning your cable/DSL modem mac address? What service are you using cable or dsl? What is your modem? Also is the RT31P2 DHCP disabled? Is it set to obtain IP addresses automatically? Have you disabled its NAT? What are the ip addresses? The subnet makes a difference. Lastly, does the PAP2 have an ip address if so what is it?

Basically, there could be a number of different things that could be the cause of the problem. If we are given more specific information, we could help you more precisely. Please try to give us the answers to all these questions. My suspicion is that you have both the DI-604 and the RT31P2 fighting each other to be the primary router and if they are on different subnets, that could also cause problems. One of them must have its DHCP disabled and the NAT disabled. They must all be on the same subnet. Some things to think about.

Matt,

It would be particularly helpful if you could explain some properties of your various devices. I.e. Is the DI-604 DHCP enabled? Yes

Is it obtaining IP addresses automatically? Yes

Is it cloning your cable/DSL modem mac address? No
What service are you using cable or dsl? Cable
What is your modem? Motorola Surfboard

Also is the RT31P2 DHCP disabled? Yes
Is it set to obtain IP addresses automatically? I set it up with a static IP-192.168.0.101
Have you disabled its NAT? I think so, I'll have to verify

What are the ip addresses?
DI-604 192.168.0.1
RT31P2 192.168.0.101
LinksysPAP 192.168.0.100

The subnet makes a difference.
Both routers are set to 255.255.255.0

I hope these answers will help someone pinpoint the problem. I thought I had it working before, but I haven't been able to set everything up the way it was.

Thanks!

hi,
hope this will help you, connect a cable from your old router to the internet port on the rt, reset the router rt31p2 for 30 secs, and wait for 5 minutes you should get a phone light solid even before you connect a telephone, if not unplug power from modem and old router and rt, plug power to modem first , wait til all lights are solid on modem and power up your old router and wait till lights are stable, check if your computers are going online, and then power up the rt you should get the phone light solid after 5 mins, if not call tech support they will surely fix it.

After trying a myriad of settings and configurations, I simply plugged the DI-604 into a DI-524 and plugged the 2 Vonage adapters into the 604. The 524 runs the PCs on the network and the 604 runs the Vonage adapters. I powered everything up in sequence, from the cable modem to the adapters, and it started working fine.

Thanks for the help anyway! Confused
