I decided to keep the unit. What I found was that the set was very prone to two interferences. 1) Another 5.8 system in the house (reduced the set's range dramatically, I had a panasonic), and 2) needs to be away from your computer.

Other than that, I really like the system. The copy ringtones thing could be done better, but I don't consider that to be my dealbreaker feature.

On my old panasonic I used to have to turn the volume all the way up on some phone calls because people were "quiet speakers". Now, I actually have to turn the volume to 50% for those calls otherwise the call is too loud.

Highly recommend this set. With the extended replacement warranty from Best Buy, I'll be keeping this for the next 3 years at least.

I tried out Panasonic's new download feature (through the web) and was not impressed with it at all. I used the Uniden's program, and while a little particular about things, it did the job just fine.

Cool I was about to ask about this, I own one of the new panasonics and I have to max out volume. Even with volume maxed its not really loud, so the uniden is really so loud you leave it at 50%? Also if anyone owns the older uniden unit (TRU8885-2) I mite prefer to get that one if the volume on it is also good due to the price and the fact that you get two. Any input/advice would be great. TIA

I leave it on 50% and if using a headset, I move it even lower. It's a great unit.

Hey Guys!

First time here. Found this forum while attempting to
search for information on the new Uniden phones.

I was originally interested in the new 5.8 GHZ Uniden
ELBXXX Bluetooth phones. However, after reading bad
review after bad review on its build quality, I decided to
wait on purchasing my first 5.8 GHZ expandable system.

I am actually eyeing the CLX465 since I have CALL ANSWERING
service through Verizon. I don't need a digital ansewering
service.

It seems the CLX465 will not be released till the second
week of July -- or at least, Amazon.com hasn't gotten their
stock in as of yet (and I trust them the most as far as a
vendor to buy this).

I am greatly interested in your comments here regarding
the CLX485 as it is basically the same phone as the upcoming
465 phone.

Thus far it seems you guys are happy with the phones. Not
sure how good build quality is, but the only shaky issue
brought up about these phones is RANGE.

I am also considering the Panasonic KX-TG5561M which
looks quite comparable to the Uniden phone. Some say it
is better. Not sure.

Will be interested in hearing more about your experiences
with your phones so I can determine if buying one for
myself is a good idea.

Natasha,

I have another 5.8 system in my home, but I am glad
to hear you are happier with the range quality.

Supposedly you can import OUTLOOK contacts with
the USB software. I'd be interested how good that works.

I'm rather surprised and disappointed that the sister model,
the CLX465 is not available yet. You would think both would
be released at the same time.

I'd actually pay the $20-$30 more for the CLX485 to have
it today, but since it has a built-in answering machine there
is no VOICE MAIL INDICATOR on the phone for those of us that
subscribe to a voice-mail service. I am certain that the CLX465
will have that feature.

What is really laughable is that I was waiting for months
for the Uniden ELB series bluetooth phones to be released.
I was certain I was going to buy them, that is, until I read all
the reviews about what a piece of crap the $250 system is.

I do a lot of research and find Uniden usually makes the
best cordless phones. Really sad that their new flagship
system is getting scathing reviews.

Well I purchased the CLX 485 and it is going back to the store in a few minutes. The volume was nice and loud, the battery back up is cool, and the overall phone seems very good. The ring tones to choose from are horrible but you can make your own and ring tones are no big deal to me. The reason it is going back is because the answering machine doesn't work at all. I’m sure I just got a defective phone so I might swap it out. One annoying thing was the caller ID info doesn't stay on the screen, it gives you very little time to see who’s calling before it switches back to wallpaper/flashing incoming call. If anyone can comment on the caller ID info staying on the screen that would be great because it might just be because I have a defective unit. TIA and sorry for the long post.

PS Their customer service is the worst.

possible caller ID problem since I don't want to have
