just use PPP. it's ALOT Easier, and works 100% for me. it's even a little fast than dial up, because it doesn't have to dial-in. usually takes under 1 min.
Can you let me know how I can do this "PPP" method.
Thanks!
just follow the instructions on this page...
http://www.tivohelp.com/archive/tivohelp.swiki.net/45.html
Requirements:
A Tivo running 3.0 or above software.
A PC with a serial port nearby running Windows XP.
A null modem cable connecting the two.
An understanding of your LAN setup and how networking works.
Thanks. I read it and have one question - what type of Null Modem Cable would I need. I checked the internet and there are quite a few of them.

Is it a given - i.e. stated
Vonage
policy - not to upgrade the Mot V1005 firmware to make TIVO calls possible?

I called yesterday to try to get this firmware upgrade. After my experience yesterday. I'm never calling
Vonage
customer service ever again unless its my absolute last resort.
The first guy I spoke to I couldn't understand him and he couldn't understand me. I was then transferred to the advance tech support. This guy was a little easier to understand but didn't want to listen to anything I was saying. If it wasn't on his script he was just silent. He told me I should call DirecTv to have them activate the USB ports on my DirecTv Tivos and just use that (which DirecTv is never going to do ). And had never heard of the firmware upgrade. After being on the phone with this guy for 30 minutes I finally just hung up.
And Geka you probably shouldn't post your phone number and account number in a public forum. That info was suppossed to be PMed when the beta was still running.

Post subject: A Verified Solution for DirecTV/Tivo Issues....
Option 1: PAP2 as Phone Adapter with WRT54G Router
1) Get latest firmware patch for WRT54G from Linksys and update the firmware
2) Change dialing options on DirecTV/Tivo as follows:
- Use a 212 Number
- Set Dial Prefix (not Call Wating Prefix): ,#019 (19.2 KBPS)
If Option 1 Fails:
Option 2: Replace PAP2/WRT54G with one WRTP54G (includes two phone ports built-in to the router).
1) Then follow steps 1 & 2 above.
This is what I did and I can confirm this option works but do Option 1 first because it won't cost you anything. The new WRTP54G is $129.99 retail with $20.00 rebate so it will wind up costing you $109.00.
Good luck,
Phil

Post subject: Or use option 3
Here's the third option: Call the local phone company and get a basic line installed, use the wireless RCA phone jacks if you have a second unit.
I played with
Vonage
and the HD DirecTivo at my mother-in-law's house for over 6 months and could not get it to work. Packet sizes were played with, they swapped out the Moto adapter for a linksys, I tried the external modem, you name it. PPP worked, but I was not going to dedicate a laptop to each unit. I finally gave up. In Indiana, a basic line is $14/month (including taxes). That plus the $25 for
Vonage
was still cheaper that the $60+ I was paying the phone co before. She uses the
Vonage
line as her normal day to day phone, and the "real" line is dedicated to the Tivos.
(Before anyone asks "why bother with the phone line at all?", My MIL likes to use PPV and I wasn't going to ask her to schedule each PPV thru the website. I don't like the nag screen, and didn't feel like hacking her unit. So, needed a phone line).
With any luck, either DirecTV will uncripple our boxes, or the new NDS box will "speak internet" and the need for the basic line will vanish. In the meantime, I'm happy to pay an extra $14 a month not to screw with it anymore.
Its frustrating, becuase I live less than a mile away, and my units work most of the time.

Post subject: Simple solution for TiVo
After 6 months of research I finally have the solution to my DirectTiVo over
Vonage
problem.
Install a 2-line DSL filter from Radio Shack ($16.99) or a 1-line DSL filter from Home Depot ($5.97)
Set Dial Prefix: ,#104
Set Call Waiting Prefix: *99
I have 3 DirectTivo's
Directv HR10-250
Hughes GXCEBOT
Sony SAT-60
Each one connected first time and every time with getting a new number, making a test call and making a daily call.
