Why is it that my Direct Tivos work every time (without any special settings or prefixs) with my AT&T Call Vantage line but will never be able to work with
Vonage
?

You are wrong. My DirecTV Tivo worked with
Vonage
for 4 months. I'm not exactly sure why it stopped working, but it DID work at one point, so it is possible for it to work.
Not to mention the numerous other people who currently have Directv TIVO successfully dialing up over
Vonage
.

I've posted this before and I'll post again....Since the firmware upgrade to my RT31P2 I have a successful call 90% of the time. The failures are usually a day time call, which didn't work using Verizon either. I have an SAT-T60 series 1 DTiVo.
So yes, a call can be made over
Vonage
.

My unit is now successful roughly the same amount now, which is excellent. However, I have lost my ability to fax, I have tried numerous methods, *99 and also just direct dial and I can't fax. Before the upgrade faxes worked perfectly. Is anyone else experiencing this? I still have a POTS line, so I am thinking I may have to rollback if there is no solution. I want my cake and to eat it too
Thoughts anyone?

With the new firmware update, I am now at 100% success rate (yes, 100%) with Tivo (series 1) and
Vonage
using an external modem on the Tivo (hooking it to the Tivo using the serial cable you can buy at the Tivo site for about $9 and a cheap serial modem).
I learned everything I need to know from:

just use PPP. it's ALOT Easier, and works 100% for me. it's even a little fast than dial up, because it doesn't have to dial-in. usually takes under 1 min.
Can you let me know how I can do this "PPP" method.
Thanks!

, until Directv changes the modem to digtal.. Directv Tivos have analog modems and
Vonage
uses digtal signals. the two of them basically cannot understand one another. there is no converting the digtal to analog, there is no need to waste money dsl filter, or slowing the modem down, or making it a fax line. there is no need to call
Vonage
tech support, and there is no need for need for
Vonage
to to put out new firmware to "TRY" to make Directv Tivos work with Vonage... it simply does not work.
Rubbish. I've got the Motorola VT1000v and my R10 calls in successfully 90% of the time. My HR10-250's are at 50%. I'm using an NYC dialin number, and all the usual config tricks.
My issue is that for a software update (where the HD-Tivo needs to call in for 2-3 hours)
Vonage
can't keep the quality high enough for the DirecTivo's picky modem.

Series 1 will work, yes. but not Directv Series 2. and it has nothing to do with the tome of day call, because i can get all three of my directv series 2 tivos to connect at anytime of the day, with no problems what soo ever.
