The link didn't work but I think I found the article you were talking about it is the 149.99 with a rebate on 7/24 but that is for a regular 5.8gb cordless phone comes with 2 for the house. Not WIFI cordless it looks like they changed the date on the WIFI again now it says hopefully by the end of 2005 not by 4th quarter anymore. So might not be out till the end of the year now.

But if you do a search on the phone itself it seems that you can already buy the phone.
http://www.voipsupply.com/product_info.php?products_id=802
So the phone itself is not in beta or testing anymore since you can buy it online. Granted wouldn't do any good if you can't connect to a
Voip
provider. Phone says can "UTStarCom WIFI Mobile Handset, Model # F1000. This SIP based WLAN phone is easily integrated with most SIP based IP PBX systems." so might work on any SIP but won't work on
Vonage
cause can't use just any SIP phone or device on
Vonage
. Have to have the router for
Vonage
as a go between.
Would be interested to see if anyone has used it with another
Voip
provider yet. I figured
Vonage
would be the first to offer this.

No problem went to find out as soon as I saw your post also lol.
It surprised me the other day when I saw you can purchase the phone online. I thought it was just for
Vonage
until I saw you can buy the phone. I just wouldn't want to buy that one and it not work when
Vonage
comes out with the same phone.

Thank you very much Dan. Do you have any idea if the $50 rebate will be applicable to current users of
Vonage
? Or is it known how this will work with my current Linksys router? (ie, can I use both devices at once?)
Thanks.

The info I am getting is Vague, at best. Mostly due to this alleged IPO thingy.
But info is coming, so I would imagine that your questions will be answered soon.

I'd love one of these phones, but only if we can use our current phone number with it. I don't want the same deal as the softphone, which is pointless for me. I want one phone number. I guess I may pay a small fee for the privilege, but maybe then it would make sense to set up an Asterik server and use a SIP softphone to connect to Asterik for free. I don't travel enough to really justify all of that, but perhaps the geek in me would think it would be cool....

ACTON, MA-
September 19, 2005
- Azimuth® Systems, Inc., the leading provider of Wi-Fi® test equipment, today announced that
Vonage
® Network, a subsidiary of
Vonage
Holdings Corp, the leading provider of broadband telephony service, is employing Azimuth’s W-Series 802.11 test platform. The W-Series will be used to validate Vonage’s Wi-Fi solution for the soon-to-be-released Wi-Fi handset for the residential and SOHO markets.
Earlier this year,
Vonage
announced its plans to roll out a Wi-Fi handset to augment its broadband
Voip
services, offering its customers mobility across 802.11 networks. By standardizing on Azimuth’s VoWi-Fi test solutions,
Vonage
can quickly and easily support that its services are meeting the company’s high quality standards. In addition, the alliance allows
Vonage
to assure that its interoperability and performance standards are maintained. These benefits will allow
Vonage
customers to realize new quality services in a quick time-to-market.
“As the leading provider of full-featured, affordable, broadband phone services across North America, we must be able to certify and validate that our
Voip
solution, as well as the equipment we are deploying, meets our standards for availability and quality of voice service,” said Louis Mamakos, CTO of
Vonage
Holdings Corp. “Azimuth’s unmatched testing capabilities – particularly in the areas of Wi-Fi performance, multi-vendor interoperability, and industry standards conformance – help us support that our customers receive a high level of satisfaction from Vonage’s Wi-Fi phone.”
The Azimuth W-Series is the industry’s first standardized test platform for automated system level testing of IEEE 802.11 wireless access points, clients and other devices. The system configures an entire Wi-Fi network in a bench top chassis that provides complete Radio Frequency (RF) isolation and control. This enables evaluation of wireless LAN equipment under varying mobility conditions and traffic patterns, as well as precise analysis of the results. Azimuth’s patented system approach offers an ideal environment to perform design validation and system performance testing in addition to certification and conformance testing to the latest industry standards.
“Vonage is a leader in providing
Voip
services and we’re pleased that they’ve chosen us to help prove the quality of their Wi-Fi handsets,” said Ray Cronin, CEO of Azimuth. “The W-Series’ ability to test voice and security features, while also testing mobility in a controlled RF environment, is unique because it meets the needs of the industry’s technology leaders. “
