Dynastar:

Where did u find the api for writing the apps?

I would like to check out your tray app, and if you wouldn't mind sharing the api, and the source, that would be great as well.

Hi all, I'm new to this forum. I've been using Vonage for about a year now and it's been great. I wanted you all to know that I've built a mini portal and recently added Vonage to it. I added support for viewing the activity log (both incoming and outgoing) as well as listening to voicemails. If anyone is interested in seeing/using it, let me know.

Thanks,
Mario

Sure post a link. I had forgotten about this thread. Hehe. I never found a Vonage api by the way. Oh, well.

I haven't looked at your site in great depth, but I have an idea for an easy feature for you to implement.

Vonage's Click2Call interface is documented at https://secure.click2callu.com. You could incorporate click2call in your contact list as well as prompt for dialing on phone meeting events.

A more complete implementation would support recognition of phone numbers and formatting as hyperlinks in emails and notes in order to permit Click2Call. (Note that this could be used for any telephone dialing service, for example you can use a SIP URL to dial a softphone.)

On an unrelated note, the phone numbers in the contact info on your site are written 'nnn/ nnn-nnnn'. This number format is not currently recognized by Firefox's Click2Call extension. Since I had not previously seen this format I am curious as to whether it is in common usage. Any thoughts?

Finally, could you send me some information about how you handle SMS massaging? I am being asked to implement this as a feature and I don't know where to start as far as connecting to some type of SMS portal.

I actually have the click 2 call feature already implemented.

Here's how it works. When you view each entry in your activity log, the system first checks to see if the number belongs to one of your contacts, if it does, the details for that contact is shown with an icon next to the phone number for you to call that person back.

If the caller is not in your contact database, the system checks the 411 directory to see if it's a published number. If it is, the person's name and address are shown along with a google map of their location and the ability to save it to your contact database as well as call that person back using click 2 call.

If the number is a non-published number, the details of the call are shown with the ability to add the number to your contact database.

Thanks for the tip on the phone number format. It's not really common usage, just something I started doing a few years ago.

For SMS handling in MyPortalXM, we use Clickatell, they have their own SMS gateway and very good prices (the best I've seen). I call their SMS web service with my account information (with them), the number I'm calling and the message I want to send. More information on ClickaTell can be found on their web site at www.clickatell.com
