Post subject: Disconnecting Outside Phone Line in NYC Apartment
I live in a high-rise co-op in NYC. I’d like to plug my router into a wall jack so I can use the rest of the jacks in my apartment with
Vonage
.
I know
Vonage
suggests having the outside phone line disconnected from the apartment prior to doing this. I’m really not sure if I can find the connection myself, if I the super can do it, or if I need to contact the phone company.
Has anyone done this in an apartment building?
TIA.

Call up the phone company and tell them you want to disconnect your apartment from the outside. Ask them if they know where the network termination device is in your building. They may or may not know this. It may be in your apartment, it may be outside somewhere locked up, or in some basement or somewhere else only accessible to building management.
I live in an apartment and my network termination device was built into one of my phone jacks. It was easy to disconnect. Your mileage may vary.
