Any help would be appreciated. Between Comcast, and Vonage over Comcast, I am quickly pulling all of my hair out. I suspect I am suffering from a Comcast issue, that is giving me a poor Vonage experience. I am having trouble with the other party hearing me on calls when I can hear them fine, cant send faxes without errors (but can receive them fine), and hear clicks, tones, etc. on calls.

As you can see, I have issues with packet loss and bandwidth degradation. The below speed test revealed horible download speeds considering I am on the Comcast Gold Tier (6M/800KB). [And, by the way, does anyone believe the Voip speed test analysis which, in my case, suggests my connection can support "10 simultaneous high quality Vonage® Voip connections". This must be a joke? I wish I could support just 1 "high quality Vonage® Voip connections".]

Any insights? My only broadband options are to stay with Comcast and tough it out, switch to RCN cable broadband, or go with DSL which means restoring service with SBC as they own all the POTS lines in my area. The latter option then pretty much negates the cost benfits of Vonage.

I had some severe quality issues with Comcast and switched to RCN's all fibre-optic system in my area. I've not had a single problem since.

Of course, just because this worked for me doesn't necessarily mean you'll have the same experience.

I am a customer of Comcast and use Vonage service on their HIS. As of today, I have not had any problems with my phone service or packet loss and bandwidth degradation. I run the speed tests often and they are always consistent.

I subscribe to Comcast’s 6.0MB/768KPS. The sound quality is great and I have not experienced any outages or problems with service.

Here’s my setup:

Cable Modem: Linksys BEFCMU10 version 3 (Use your own modem and save $3/tax)

Firewall: Linksys BEFVP41 version 2 (I use this box because I need a VPN connection from home to work. If you don’t require a constant VPN connection you can use another firewall)

Wireless: Linksys WAP54G Version 2

Vonage: Linksys PAP2

I use my own DNS service. The DNS issues that Comcast were experiencing recently didn’t affect me. I host my own DNS server at home using Windows 2003 and point all my workstations to it.

I also do not use the Linksys QOS feature. Their QOS doesn’t seam to work correctly and since I have not seen any issues with being on the phone and on the internet at the same time I have no need to turn it on.

I had the same problem with my Vonage service with Comcast cable modem serivce. I could always hear people coming in, but people would not hear me periodically for a few seconds going out. It turned out that Comcast recently increased upload bandwidth from 256k to 384k in my area (Detroit, Michigan). I have had the same cable modem since I got their service years ago. The cable modem I had could not handle the upload speed increase and would periodically loose sync. I went to my local Comcast office and replaced the modem and everything is fine now. My old modem was a Toshiba PCX1100. This could be your problem. Hope this helps.

if at first a caller can hear you but then they are having Problems hearing you after u hav e been talking to them for a few min..

Move the Phone Adaptor away from all other Hardware

I was having the same problem I had my adaptor on top of another pice of hardware....I moved it off and away from all other hardware, never had that problem again... Smile

It seems the phone adaptor from linksys is very sensitive can not be on or near other electronics....I have the linksys Phone Adaptor Model# PAP2

PS Comcast is not good, or {CUMCAST} as I call them... if you have a choice of a 2nd cable company switch i f you can...
