Just wondering if a) this makes sense, and b) if it worked for anyone...
I've been having choppy calls since I started - the audio from either my side or theirs cuts out for a few seconds. It seems to be due to my router (D-Link DI-624) rebooting (all the lights go blank and then reset themselves; my sound is gone while that's happening).
Vonage tech guy says to try a different router (I'm thinking of a Linksys WRT54G, but open to suggestions). Has anyone with this problem had it solved by using a different router?
I'd love to hear before schlepping out to BestBuy (again) and dealing with a whole new setup. If this doesn't work, it's bye to Vonage...
My setup: SB5100 - DI-624 - PAP2, on Comcast with an iMacG5. Download 4,011,688 bps Upload 355,288 bps QOS 92%; RTT 72 ms; MaxPause 144 ms
thanks, binkyjoe |

All your numbers look fine. So Since the router cuts out, it might help. Linksys is good. And there are others. look for the deals and the rebates too. I would start there. And if it can be helped avoid best buy. Shop on the net or try a different local store.
I cant give opinion on D-link since I have no experience with it
Good Luck

Could be a heat issue. Where's the router located? Is the case warm? |

Okay all, I was hoping for some feedback from people who'd switched routers (hypothetically I know it could work), but thanks to you who wrote me anyhow.
I just returned my D-Link and got a linksys (WRT54G); it appears to be solid so far - and soon I have a two-hour conference call that will be the test of tests.
I'll let you know how it goes... |

Problem solved!
Here's the thing: it was the router. After hooking up the WRT54G, it has been solid ever since. No problems with Vonage whatsoever. All my calls have been clear and clean.
So here's what I started with: Comcast :: Toshiba pcx1100 :: D-Link DI-624 :: PAP2 and now, Comcast :: Motorola SB5100 :: Linksys WRT54G :: PAP2
Solid as a rock.
Thanks to all who helped, binkyjoe |
