Hi
I am in India using the linksys RT31P router and USA number.
The Vonage speed test is giving me the following result
Vonage Voip Analysis Given your current Internet speeds, we estimate that your Internet connection can support a maximum of 2 simultaneous high quality Vonage® Voip connections. My Results Download 378,600 bps Upload 205,840 bps QOS 89% RTT 325 ms MaxPause 266 ms
I have a USA number that i use here in India, the connection is fine most of the times but sometimes there is a LOT OF NOISE in the line , changing the phone handset, changingthe physical location of the router to a place without any PC/UPS/other electrical devices, trying various options in the router settings is also not helping.
I am not able to associate any particular event that triggers this noise this is very random.
from what i can make out this might be some electrical noise, any idea what it might be and how i can overcome this problem.

I'm also having 'noise' on my RT31P2. I can test it by picking up the phone and dialing '1' (to get rid of the dial tone). The noise reminds me of when I had a bad sound card in my pc 10 years ago and I could hear my mouse move through my speakers whenever I moved the mouse.
I have tried all suggestions I have found.
1. Second Port short, 2nd phone off-hook 2. Move the equipment around to reduce the likelyhood that something external is causing the problem.
Any other ideas?
Firmware: 1.28 Voice: 2.0.13(LIVd)
Thanks,
Jae |

I have tried the tricks that is mentioned on this page, but it hasn't helped much, i changed the location of the Voip router to other building about 3 miles away and the problem went away ...............
what might be the problem? i am not able to understand , most of the time the phone is ok but some times too much noise comes ........................ then its not possible to talk at all, this problem is becoming too frustrating for me. |

Sounds like a network problem. |

i think maybe i found the solution............. putting the power supply of the Voip router to the UPS ( Without the main power supply from wall outlet plugged in ) and running the ups is solving the problem.
so i think there is some electrical disturbance / spikes in the main power supply of the building that is causing the problem so running it on UPS battery ius solving the problem

I was thinking of getting a Online UPS to solve this problem as the current UPS battery doesnt last more than 14-15 minutes. But the cost of a online UPS is too mcuh costing more than Rs.40,000.00
so is there any other way out , maybe use the smps of the PC or use any other battery power other than from online ups.

Now instead of running it on a battery what i have done is give it power through a SMPS and i have totally discarded the linksys power adapter and now there is no disturbance at all.
So its clear that power disturbance was the reason of the noise and giving power through SMPS which cleans power is solving the problem fully.
