Can someone explain to me how I will install my router to the hotel's DSL in-room internet? Here soon we will be moving due to military and we will stay in a hotel for like 2-3 days and one of the hotels I called has DSL and one has Cable. Trying to get the one with cable. |

If the hotel has rj45 jacks than you can use that just as you would your cable or dsl modem at home ... if they have wireless only than your Vonage router has to be wifi compatible. i would worry about RJ45 vs. WIreless in the hotel more than I would about cable vs. dsl unless of course you have a wireless Vonage router than you should be ok no matter how the hotel internet access is set up. |

We stayed in a hotel that featured DSL in the rooms. However, nothing needed to be done to the PC in order to connect (PPOE software). There was a DSL modem/router/switch under the desk that handled the authentication and assigning an IP to my laptop. The only issue I'd think you have to worry about is ports. |

If they are using wireless at the hotel it will not work. You need a physical connection to the Internet port of the router. A lot of times they block ports too so that people cannot use thier internet access for phone calls and so that they can charge $1.99/min. |

there are probably other reasons, but the fact that the rt31p2 doesn't have wireless is one. |

heh, my fault, I was going off of the original poster's information. fwiw, if it's that big of an issue (business traveler, etc) you could also carry along a wireless bridge to obtain the functionality referred to. |
