Maybe this is a bit OT, sorry if it is: If the hotel had Wireless only - would the new (ok, yet to be released) WiFi phones that Vonage has been working on - work in that kind of situation?

Just a question.

it's probably worth cloaning the mac address from your pc onto the Vonage router as well. A lot of hotels will raise 2 charges if they see 2 devices connected. This happened to me a couple of times before i twigged what was happening.

Some people on the forum have reported wireless bridges working. You have to do some configuring. Do some searching. Also, you can use a laptop with wifi and a NIC, use Windows XP ICS to share the Internet connection. This has been done successfully (but you have to keep the computer up). Again, do some searches.

My .02

I have had pretty good luck with a couple of exceptions.

If the hotel has wireless, it is a crapshoot. One place had crappy connections...the calls would drop after 5 or 10 minutes, then they would work great for a half hour or so. I picked up an Asus WL-330 for 50 bucks, and it works as a wireless adapter or an access point. I plugged that bad boy into the linksys and I was off to the races. If the wireless connection is stable, it works pretty well.

I haven't ran in to any places that block internet calls...yet. The one pain with some places with free internet access is having to re-register every day. It can be annoying, but for the savings, I guess it's a hassle worth putting up with.

I've had bandwidth problems connecting a voice adapter to a network via a wireless bridge. It was a B network so it may work better on a G.

I tried using my neighbor's wide-open 802.11b network last night with Vonage and didn't hit any hiccups. I think the issue with many of the hotel networks is too little bandwidth and too many users. All it takes is 1 bozo running BitTorrent or similar to sink a network.
