I cancelled my telephone service that was provided by my cable company today since I now have and am very pleased with Vonage. I was told that they would be removing the phone interface box from the outside of my house. I currently have the phone lines disconnected from their interface so I could connect the Vonage router to all my phone jacks. My question is this: Since they will be coming out to remove the external interface box, do I need to disconnect my Vonage adapter from my internal phone wiring until they have removed their box? My concern is that in the process of removing the box, there may be a chance that voltage would come thru the phone line and fry my Vonage router. |

Better to be safe than sorry, remove it and turn on call fordwarding or something so you can still get calls while they are doign it (not sure how long the process is) |

Ok, thanks. That's what I was thinking but I wasn't sure. I'm also assuming that once they are done, I will still be able to hook my Vonage router back up to my internal phone wiring and use all my phone jacks like before. |

If your internal wiring is not connected to their interface on the outside of your house then nothing they do will have any bearing on your inside wiring.

I agree that it's kind of funny.
At my work we've had SBC techs come out for the sole reason of removing the *sticker* with a circuit ID from a cancelled T-1 line. Talk about a waste of a trip I did have one guy concede to me once that they really only did that type of stuff when they weren't that busy.

I was kind of surprised that they are going to come remove the box but they said that they don't leave it on the house like Southwestern Bell does. The funny thing is they aren't going to come remove it until May 1st. |

And with all the people that are signing up for Voip recently, they(SBC techs) may find more and more free time to remove stickers. |

This was discussed somewhere else. If your phone service was provided by the cable co., it's not a $10 NID you can pick up at the local Home Depot. It handles the digital to analog conversion and interface to your local wiring. An anology is that it's a PAP2 in a waterproof box. I know that's not exactly right, but it's close enough for this discussion. |
