Anyone here into wardriving? I've recently become quite interested in it. I purchased a Linksys WRT54G, installed Linux on it, and reversed the firewall in it. Now the wireless interface on the box is the internet interface. I ssh into the box, join a wireless network, and the wireless connection is shared over all of the LAN ports. It definitely beats any wireless card I've ever had. The range is incredible when you use an antenna holder and put the antennas outside of the car.

So, I had an idea. When I go on long trips in my car I can take my WRT54G with me, a laptop, and my RT31P ATA. Anywhere there is a wireless signal broadcasting I will have phone service! Although, to run all of this stuff my little 95 Watt interverter just won't cut it, so I went out and bought a 350 W inverter at Wal Mart for $45. The setup works great! I tried it up at the student housing at the local university. So, if you want to make a cell phone out of your Vonage phone (sort of), it is possible! Lots of fun too!

Have you never heard of a Cell Phone?? Very light and portable, you don't have to explore for a hot spot & you can carry them around in your pocket. Definitly "State Of The Art".

Hey,

It was just a fun thing to try. It's not like I go around with my VOIP phone in my car 24/7.
