The reps here do this on our own time, we aren't forced or told by Vonage as it is not our job to monitor this forum, however, the few of us who actually help, do it because we like to help people.

You have all of 4 posts by your name so what you consider "quirky" is actually the norm around here.

The few Vonage employees that are around post pretty regularly FYI.

Maybe I misunderstood what you said but the part about smoking stuff in your I/O port seemed a little rude to me.

I think jzacuto needs to take a chill pill. Pretty much every Voip provider does this. Even if you do own the router, I feel the provider has the right to lock down the settings of the voice ports. It keeps people from screwing things up. If they let anyone and everyone get to those settings they'd end up with service calls out the wazoo due to people screwing up the settings. Probably at least 90% of the people out there would have absolutely no idea what they were doing if they got into those settings. Linksys sells different versions of this router, and each version is locked down to a specific Voip provider.

If you ask me, someone who'd take legal action just because they can't access some port settings on a router obiously has nothing better to do with their time. Too many people sue for too many (mostly stupid) things in this country. I work for the court system, and it's stupid crap like that that has the court systems in this country overloaded and with backed-up cases. If I was a judge and someone brought a case like this before me I'd throw it out.

That's nice and all, but I BOUGHT the router as part of my package. I OWN the router. So for Vonage to hold that over me is kinda sorta really big time illegal. You can't sell a third parties product and then not allow the person who OWNS it to use all of its feature functions that they purchased with it.

I'm sure someone out there has the password.

If you want a device where you have access to the ports, go with a different provider or buy your own Sipura SPA2000 or 3000. A number of other providers offer "Bring your own device" plans where you hold sole responsibility for provisioning a device you own yourself. As to the router you bought, its price is lowered and subsidized by Vonage and therefore they maintain control of the voice ports.

If you think you're going to bring some sort of legal action against Vonage to give you access to the second port, you're barking up the wrong tree. Just go buy a Sipura and get on with your life.

You didn't HAVE to buy the router though. You could have signed up directly from them but you didn't. If you bought it from a store then what you bought was a firewall router. You didn't pay for the Vonage Voip part of the hardware. Same thing applies with cable modems. Sure you can go out and buy your own cable modem, but if you uncap it the cable company will permantely kick you off the network.

The Vonage network is not something you need access to the settings for and you have no right to access the settings for it.

You are right. The ROUTER is yours. The Vonage hardware and settings are not.

I don't care about THEIR damned settings. Unfortunately, I need access to the same section where their settings are in order to access the settings for Port 2. Port 2 has nothing to do with Vonage at all. It's mine to do with as I please. It's just unfortunate for Vonage that they have to fess up the password for the Voice Admin page in order for me to use MY Port 2.

I REALLY don't see what the big issue is. It's actually getting to the point where I could probably round up enough people to get together a class-action lawsuit against Vonage. And I'm sure there are plenty of pro-bono attorneys out there that'd be salivating at the chance to represent a class that is more than obviously in the right against a rapidly growing Voip provider.

Seriously, folks, it ain't that big-a-deal. The router is mine, setting up Port 2 is MY business, not theirs. Not giving me the password is clearly wrong.

Period, end of story.

When you signed up for the Vonage account you AGREED that you would not tamper with the modem at all. So good luck with the class-action.

Vonage will not give you the password, and even if they did you cant make that device register to another network other than vonage's anyway so what's the use? Vonage's proxy servers are hard-coded into the device and you cannot start adding your own services, this is the same reason why we cannot accept devices from other carriers.

Help.

Vonage has set the voltage for voice/dial tone at 45 volts. Phone company standard is 48 to 50 volts.

The low voltage causes my pbx to think there is no phone line.

Since Vonage will not give anyone the password to change voice options on the router, how can I get Vonage to change the voltage setting within the BIOS?

Thanks!
Jeff
