Alright all, first time posting and I am at wits end. I have a series 2 tivo, dont remember what version, but its the one where you can transfer shows onto your PC. Sorry for being vague, its been about 2 monthes since I have been able to get it to work.

Guided setup problems:

Tried the LAN connection with the approved Belkin adaptor and code, and it doesnt work.

Tried the external modem with serial cable etc and codes, and cannot get that to work either.

Any tricks I am not thinking of other than taking it to a friends house?

HELP!!!!

Eric,

You didn't state whether this is the fist time you are starting up your TiVo or not. I can tell you that if you are running it for the first time out of the box then you must use a telephone. The LAN connection will not work because the LAN interface drivers are not on your TiVo yet. They get downloaded during the initial call. I wouldn't try using any external modems either.

What you will want to do is connect your TiVo to the Vonage adapter's active phone jack and use the dialing prefix *70*99.

If this doesn't work for you, you will have take the TiVo to a friend's house who has a regular land-line. I know you don't want to do this, but it is a solution. Once you've done that, take it home, connect your LAN adapter, and reconfigure the connection setting to use the network.

If you have already run this TiVo over your network then go through the setup business where you set the connection to phone or network. Work in there until you get the TiVo to talk to the network. If you are using a router with DHCP check that it is giving the TiVo an IP adress. If no DHCP make sure you assign the TiVo a unique IP address and the correct subnet mask, and possibly DNS servers if it needs them.

There a tons of posts on this subject in the Forums under Fax - Tivo - Alarms. See if someone there has a better idea if you don't like mine.

thanks for the reply...this is for the guided setup.

Is it *70*99 without commas?

I have to run the guided because I have moved. I will try this tonight, thanks for the help!

You can use the commas to add a 1 second pause during the stutter tones after the commands if you like. It should work without them but will work with them.

If you have already had this TiVo working on a network you should be able to put it back on the network and skip the whole phone nonsense.

Well, like they said in CS101: First make it work (telephone) then make it pretty (network). (Of course that was a long time ago, maybe things have changed!)

If you can't get the network to fly, try the tivo community forum at http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/

There is a lot of discussion there about networking TiVos and also a lot about TiVo and Vonage.

So you did the NY number for the intial guided setup? how did it locate programming from your area?

Dialed in to the NY number, am at the dling program data stage, but during every dl it gets interrupted and fails. tried about 20 times last night. ugh.
