I have 2 very old, standalone caller ID boxes (I know, I know)--one works, the other doesn't. No problem, its time to change phones anyway... But, when I use Click2Call, the "non-functional" box displays "C2C" + the number to call, but the "functional" box displays "Data Error". I've tried the usual:swapping, power cycling, etc. Any ideas? |

Click2Call's caller ID messages are very odd.
The number sent is "click2call" which is obviously not a number. It is not suprising that an old CID unit would have issues, it is probably not expecting text values for a phone number.
If we go back to the basic engineering we find that when digits are represented in ASCII, the value of the digit is represented by only the least significant four bits of the eight bit ASCII value. So if you are not planning to represent characters (numeric only displays) you need not include a representation for the entire ASCII table.
Figure 3 at the University of Washington implies that only digits are valid for a phone number.
My phone displays solid black boxes for the characters but renders the digit '2' and then beeps at me if I try to dial the number. Does anyone have a phone that actually displays "click2call" with "C2C-#"? |
