Post subject: Shaw Now Offering QOS Add-On for 3rd Party Voip Subscribers
From the Shaw website:
Quote:
Enhance Your Internet Telephony Service.
Shaw High-Speed Internet customers now have the opportunity to improve the quality of Internet telephony services offered by providers such as
Vonage
and Primus.
An interesting and possibly suspicious new feature.
Hoping to get some feedback from anyone trying this feature.
I'm going to call and see if they offer a free month trial like they do for Xtreme internet.
The rest of the info on this is

Interesting. Thanks for the post. I haven't had a problem using
Vonage
on Shaw even when the the QoS has been below 50 percent so I wouldn't pay for this feature. It's good to know that it is available though.
Obviously, Shaw is using this as an opportunity to plug its own "digital phone" service as the article explains how it works compared to
Vonage
(even though it's only available in Calgary right now).
Let's just hope that they don't being port blocking competitive services to encourage a subscription to this new feature. We have all seen what is happening in the US with this. I'm not convinced that the CRTC would step up to telcos or cable companies that chose to do this like the FCC has in the US.
