I'm having the same problem. I've tried with Panther (MacOS X 10.3.8 and 10.3.9) and now with Tiger (MacOS X 10.4)
I tried calling Linksys, but all they tell me is that they have limited support for the MacOS.

Post subject: Linksys RT31P2 Mac VPN problems (revisited)
As with others in this thread, when I installed my newly shipped Linksys RT31P2, I found that my PowerBook G4 (running OS X 10.4.latest) won't make a VPN connection to my office. Three different XP machines in the house have no trouble.
Like the others, I had no problem with VPN on the Mac when using my previous router, a Linksys HPRO2000, which also served computers using Phoneline wiring. I've still got one XP computer using the HPRO, and that router is plugged into one of the Ethernet ports in the RT31P2; that computer works fine. My wireless receiver, a Linksys WAP11, is also plugged into the RT31 and currently services two XP machines and my PowerBook.
So my configuration looks like this:
HPRO2000 --> RT31P2 --> Cable Modem
WAP11 ---------^
Here's my question: has anyone with this same problem tried putting their previous router between the cable modem and the RT31 and running DHCP through it (essentially making the RT31 a pass-thru device)? In my case, the network would look like this:
WAP11 --> RT31P2 --> HPRO2000 --> Cable
(There's only one LAN port on the HPRO, so I'd have to run the WAP through the RT31 first.)

Post subject: got it working
I was able to get it working by making my wireless router the main router, and then plugging the
Vonage
router into one of the ports on the main router. That way the VPN traffic doesn't have to go through the linksys. Works fine.

Do you have any problems with your phone service with this setup? The recommended set up is to have the
Vonage
router as the first item on the network.
I am running the Linksys, and an Airport extreme. I was thinking about getting the Linksys G Wireless
Vonage
router to fix everything since I rely on the VPN connection on a daily basis.
Thanks,
Josh

Has anyone actually made this work yet? I am having the same issue as well. Of course,
Vonage
hasn't replied to my question about it, and Linksys takes the "oh, you're on a Mac. We have limited support for Macs" stance. So, I'm stuck in the middle. I sold my old Linksys router once I got the RT31P2, so I can't use the set up everyone here describes. Obviously, something is wrong with this router and Apple's implementation of PPTP. If anyone has any luck with Linksys, I'd love to know about it.

Post subject: MAC VPN
I did get this working as suggested with my wireless router in front of the Linksys. However, by doing this method, my Internet connection became very unstable and slow. The VPN with both PC and MAC worked great, but when I wanted to go out to the Internet the connection would drop in and out quite often. So, I figured the VPN with the MAC was no longer necessary from my end. I can still VPN with the PC and have sharing between the two on this end if I need access to files from the office for the MAC.
Of course, it would be nice to know why this does not work for the MAC still. In my case, the OS X is Jaguar.
