Sorry if this is a basic question, but I can’t seem to find a quick answer looking through the forum.
I just received my Linksys router from Vonage. I already have a Belkin Wi-Fi router for wireless access in my home.
Right now the signal runs out of the cable modem into the Belkin Wi-Fi router and then out of the Belkin into the PC. Where do I place the Vonage Linksys router? Can I just use one of the other ports out of the Belkin to go into the Linksys?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
TIA.

Thanks for the info.
What exactly does this mean?
"Note: This configuration does not allow the Phone Adapter to prioritize your voice traffic."

I posted that link because the OP said he already had a wireless router that all of his PCs talked to, so I suggested that he add his TA to his existing network. Though I didn't state it specifically, I hoped the OP would know to connect the TA via a wired port vs unwired for optimal results.
(I wish that spellcheck was working) |

heh, that's why I was asking why he posted that one as opposed to both. if you went to http://vonage.com/help.php you would have seen this: Installation with Multiple Computers Installation with Multiple Computers (Alternate Setup)
he posted the alternate setup. the "recommened" one is the first one. let me post the direct link for you. http://vonage.com/help_knowledgeBase_article.php?category=45&article=61
to answer your question more specifically, the rt31p2 has a qos or quality of service feature built in. while no one seems to be 100% on how it technically works, it basically doesn't allow your computer to use more bandwidth than your phone needs while you're on the phone (doesn't affect anything while off the phone). there are a million posts on this, search for qos if interested. |

This is true, but can be overcome by using a router that has QOS. The alternate is to put your wireless router after the TA, but this has consequences as well. |

heres some copied text from another thread and this is the only way I have been able to use my belkin wireless router with the linksys Vonage router ... i've had the service for over six months and just now been advised of an alternative method ..... so far this has worked for me ... every other way I tried to do it I had problems losing my wireless connection for a few seconds every 30-45 minutes ...

" have a Linksys (model # in sig) wireless router behind the RT31PT & mine works fine. I had trouble with mine until I used the RT31PT like a switch behind the wireless router. I will give you my setup to see if this type of setup will help you. Plug the modem ethernet to the WAN/INTERNET port of your wireless router & run all your wired pc's through the LAN ports of your wireless router (basically keep the router in front setup like you would without the RT31PT). What you do different is with the RT31PT. You take an ethernet cable & plug it in to the WAN/INTERNET port on the RT31PT & run the other end to one of the 3 LAN ports on the RT31PT then take another ethernet cable & run it from one of the LAN ports on the RT31PT to one of the LAN ports on your wireless router. This should fix it if your problem is a setup issue. If you already have this setup or a correct setup then it may be something else........ Good Luck, J03" |

Thanks very much! I've been traveling and still haven't hooked anything up. I am however impressed that I've already received email confirmation indicating my home number will be ported to Vonage by the 25th. This will be less than 3 weeks from when I signed up. I've read some horror stories about getting your home number switched over (6+ months) so it looks like things are working a little better. I just hope when I get home and connect it all up that I have a dial tone!
