PostPosted: Sat Apr 16, 2005 11:41 am    Post subject: Service Just Stopped Working? Reply with quote Back to top

Hi,

I've been a Vonage Voip subscriber since the end of January. I have 1 phone line and 1 fax line through them.

As of last night, I haven't been able to make any calls or send/receive faxes:

I pick up the phone and get a dial tone, but after dialing, I receive a busy signal.

On the phone adapter, the power & ethernet lights are on and steady. However, the line 1 & line 2 lights are OFF.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I've tried power-cycling the modem, router (linksys wrt54g) and phone adapter (linksys pap2), all to no avail.

=(

Thanks,
e.

disconnect phone cords from the pap2. plug the ethernet from pap2 directly into the modem. see if the phone lights work. if the power light starts blinking, let it go until it stops (don't unplug).
not real sure what the problem is, but if nothing else you're eliminating some variables by taking the router out.

Plugging the PAP2 phone adapter into the cable modem and power-cycling them both worked! All 4 lights on the PAP2 go on, steady

So what could be wrong with the settings in my router / firewall?

throw the pap2 into the dmz of the wrt and be done with it. or go through all of your port forwarding settings. I would delete them all and redo them again, of course making sure port forwarding is turned on.

Neither of those options worked:

1) I set the IP of the PAP2 phone adapter to be the DMZ.

2) I deleted and re-added the port-forwarding rules specified on the Vonage support site and the PAP2 user manual.

Any other ideas?

Why would my the phone adapter suddenly stop being able to communicate to Vonage through the router?

Eureka (?):

I disabled the QoS feature on the wrt and now all is well.

Except for the fact that my Voip isn't given priority now, but I think that's a question for the linksys folks.
