router-wise everyone loves the linksys wrt54g series. you could get a vonage/linksys rt31p2 which is a little better router than the mta and has Vonage built in. Vonage should send you an rt31p2 if you keep on them and they can't solve the provblem, but that's your choice. other devices are the linksys pap2 which requires a router to work (but is smaller than the rt31p2) or the linksys wrt54gp2 which is a wireless router with Vonage built in. not as popular as the linksys-only wrt series as Vonage writes the firmware for the wrt54gp2 and it's more limited than what you can do with the linksys verisons.
really depends on what you want to do. and yes you have to call Vonage to get the mac address changed, which is not necessarily simple ;)

get a pap2 if you already have a router ....

if you dont have a home network already get a rt31p2, its cheap, but if you call tech support to get it replaced its free.

as far as the MTA goes if you have any worms/viruses and your PC tries to make "x" amount of outbound requests in "x" seconds, the MTA can either:

a) completely lock the PC port
or
b) slow it down tremendously

my advice to you is do alot of anti-virus and spyware scans, and if you still have the issue call us up for a replacement for our Linksys device

On the line right now, trying to talk them into the linksys.

Spyware and viruses are not an issue; I'm more anal and meticulous about that than anybody and the same issue happens when my new laptop is directly connected..

Again having trouble talking to the person on the phone (sigh). The line keeps cutting out and the person doesn't seem to understand completely what I'm saying.

I think this is more frustrating than anything.. the fact that dealing with customer service has now become such an ordeal..

Anyways.. I appreciate the tips from anyone; I'm sitting on hold (again) now.. Any advice for what I specifically should say or ask for -- or is there a number to connect directly to someone better to talk to, as I'm afraid of indefinite hold again here now....

GREAT. Held for 20 minutes after an Indian gentleman said he'd transfer me to someone in the "concern department", then got disconnected.

This is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE.

Is there any way to get directly through to someone NOT in India that can help?

None yet.. I was under the impression that enigma was a Vonage rep who was going to help me get my router replaced.. I PM'ed him my account number and phone number... (enigma I was right on that impression, no?)

Will definitely let the forum know if the new router helps..
