I will be spending 6 weeks in a house 200 miles away from my apartment, keeping Vonage in the old place. What exactly is the procedure/fees for adding a softphone, and am I stuck having it for any specific period of time? I'd like to just have it when I'm away and cancel it when I move back, but not if they're going to fee me to death. |

First, Your Vonage main number is fully portable. You can take your modem to the new address and it will work normally.
************************ How do I cancel my SoftPhone Number? As with removing any line from an account, you would need to contact Customer Care at 1-VONAGE-HELP at (866) 243-4357(732) 650-6699 http://www.vonage.com/help_knowledgeBase_article.php?article=639&category=0

Right, but the girlfriend that's in my apartment here is not. She will be keeping the main Vonage line here.
What I'm asking is more for the billing issue(s) in obtaining a SoftPhone on a temporary basis. Setup/Monthly/Cancellation (SoftPhone only) fees. |

Interesting...do incoming calls count against the 500 minutes? What about SoftPhone<-->Main Vonage (in AND out)? |

Do incoming calls count against my monthly minutes?
With Vonage, incoming calls are never counted against your minutes on any plan. You never pay a fee for Outgoing toll free or Vonage to Vonage calls, and Incoming calls are always free with Vonage.
The only exception to this rule applies if you have a Toll Free Plus number on your account. Incoming calls to your Vonage Toll Free Plus number are charged after you have exceeded your monthly minutes. |

I know about Vonage billing in general. Doesn't mean they wouldn't bill differently for SoftPhone usage. |

To expand on this further... is there any way to cancel the softphone account online? I'd like to avoid the long hold times when calling customer service. |
