This is getting old, 2nd time in a week no broadband service. What is going on? Cant get through by phone to Comcast for an explanation. This forum is the only site I can open....very weird.

It's just their DNS servers, i recommend changing you DNS settings. http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,13154925. This site explains how to do it, and lists some possible DNS servers you can connect to. If you have a home network and the Linksys RT31P2 router, I would suggest changing the settings on the router. You can change the DNS settings on the main page under network set up.

May I suggest a solution for you if you are willing to take some time to learn how to set it up, how to run it, and how to read the data. I would be glad to offer some assistance to get you up and running with a program that you'll have to download. The program will graph the internet connectivity at your server and the others that your data transmissions pass through, latency, number of packets lost and where, and the percentage of the data that was lost. The text data and graphs are stored on your computer. This will provide you with all the proof that you need to show you ISP where and when they are going down and why. You can examine the program at:

My Comcast internet service went down yesterday AND today, but it did not in anyway affect my Vonage. All was well even without actual internet connectivity. I placed and received while the service was down without any problems.

Don't forget to call Comcast billing to get credit for the time they are out. I was able to get 3 days credit for their outage last week and this week.

Same thing happened over here in the Chicago area the last few nights. The weird part is that it was working just fine up until about 7pm, then it all went to hell.

Thankfully I was able to dial up over my mobile (the company pays for it) the first time it happened to find some alternate DNS servers, and everything was just fine after that.

I also noticed that my phone service was completely unaffected. I guess once it gets the IP for whatever machine it talks to in Vonageland, it remembers the IP for a while. Smile

My Comcast was down about 9pm last Wed (13th) By 11pm all was OK. Here is a link to the story on ZDNET
