I'm just going to say that first and foremost I'm just grateful that I have the option of taking my business to another provider.
Nothing is ever perfect; it's what works for you.

My girlfriend lives in Ontario, I live in NJ. Everytime a go there I freak when I have to spend $10 on a pack of cigs that are $5 here.
You have to remember your money isn't worth as much as ours. so the $39.99 equals out to $32 American which isn't that bad to call anywhere in Canada and the United States as much as you want.
Many phone companys charge $3 US extra a month (here at least) for just call waiting.
So just remember you get all of these features included for free
Included Features
Voicemail Plus
Caller ID with Name
Call Waiting
Call Forwarding
3-Way Calling
In-Network Calls
Traveling with Vonage
Area Code Selection
Call Transfer
Call Return
Caller ID Block
Repeat Dialing
International Call Block
Ring Lists
Call Hunt
Just remember its neither cheap or easy to cross boundaries and offer your phone service(especially a PHONE SERVICE ) to different countries. My girlfriend has TELUS, and if all your phone providers are like that, How can you complain?? |

Your money is worth exactly the same as our with the exchange. The cigs cost more here because of extra taxes we have. You can get Vonage for $24.99 USD/month. You said it yourself. We have to have $32 USD month for the same service. |

I said it cause its true, it does cost a little more. But Vonage is an American based company thats crossing over to Canada so there are extra charges related to that crossing. But overall price wise, its still pretty damn good. |

There is no extra charges to do business in Canada as opposed to the US. Our internet protocol is identical to yours. They do not have infrastructure costs. The wiring is all through our internet service provider. Sure, they have to set up telephone exchanges in Canada, but why would that cost more than setting up an exchange in Manhattan, or a telephone exchange in Rhode Island? Number portability? Until recently, that wasn't even offered in Canada. Now it is at a minimal cost to Vonage - much lower than the cost that they pay to port numbers from AT&T or Verizon in the US. Vonage does not even have a 1-800 server in Canada. Every call we place while in Canada goes through the server located in New Jersey.
What makes you think that there is an extra cost to do business in Canada? Even with the exchange rate, Vonage is charging us Canadians way more than they are charging Americans and we are not even getting the same services. We do not have a proper working 1-800 service, nor can we use Click-To-Call here in Canada.
By the way, Primus is an American based company too, but they managed to give us unlimited coverage for $29.99 per month and they have working 1-800 service as well as almost double the calling features available that you mentioned above. |

I believe its just a horrible experience you alone have had. I've been with them over 2 months now. Sound quality/service is great. And like I said in the previous post, I realize they dont have many features as vonage. But I'm not willing to pay so much more just for a few extra features I could careless about. All I really need is the ability to have a US primary/virtual Number, unlimited incoming, and call-forwarding.
I'm not sure what you mean by bad service.. if yer speaking of say calls being dropped, not being able to hear or be heard when calling. Well lets just show you my setup.... Modem -> Primus Adaptor -> Wireless Router -> My PC -> Yak Adaptor. And QoS is still great . (But I guess its also has a bit to do with my Rogers Extreme service.. 5mbs). |
