I'm having this problem today too in the Denver area. My suspicion is that
Vonage
has some issues right now with a break in some of their
Voip
DSP coders or a problem with some of their trunks.
Vonage
needs to dump their Cisco crap and start using Avaya to run their backbone!

I'm having the same problem also (about 1 out of 4 calls) and I'm on Road Runner. A co-worker of mine is also having the same issue on the same service. I've only been on it for about 3 months now with no other problems. Hopefully they will get it straight soon.

Thanks to everyone (so far!) for your feedback. Obviously I'm not the only one having this problem, and it doesn't seem to be isolated to a single provider, modem, router, adapter, etc.
I just wish
Vonage
would acknowledge that there is some kind of problem... instead we just go about hoping that it will be fixed someday. I don't really have a lot of confidence that it's going to happen, though.

Last night as I was talking to my sister I went "auto mute" about 18 minutes into the call. This time when I immediately called back she couldn't hear me and her voice was echoing back to her (I could hear her fine). She said it sounded like being in a cave. First time that has happened to me on the immediate call back. I hung up again, gave it 15 seconds and redialed and all was well again for a few more minutes until struck by the "auto mute" feachur again (as usual).
I wonder if her voice bouncing back to her as an echo instead of mine going to her is a clue to some mixed up packet routing someplace.
As others have stated, I wish
Vonage
customercare would at least acknowledge my email of the problem or acknowledge the general problem here that they are aware of and working on it. Silence is not golden!

Post subject: Another subscriber with the "audio" problems...
Having the same issues here with muted one-sided audio problems. Started out about thirty days ago intermittently. Now as of today is ever phone call generated and received.
Having Adelphia HSI here in central New York, no problems what so ever with their service. Have had
Vonage
since April 2003 and now just having major issues with this. Customer service does not seem to have the answers either.
My take on this is, network is getting over whelmed with "new" subscribers to the service and can't handle it. It is now to the point of useless service and will give to the end of the month before having to go back to TELCO. However Adelphia is supposed to be releasing
Voip
service soon, supposedly anyway. Probably later than sooner. - Marty

So, has anyone tried swapping out phones? It worked for me and it might save you a lot of headaches for a 30 second swap out.

You're kidding right? How is it that many people have had service that worked great up until recently and now suddenly they are getting
one way audio
?
One way audio in a
Voip
environment almost always is indicative of resource exhaustion, either in network bandwidth or in DSP resources.
For all we know
Vonage
simply doesn't have enough
Voip
coders to handle current demand and as a result people get one way or no way audio.
I have contemplated hooking up my Agilent Network Analyzer (a $40,000 box that I use to troubleshoot
Voip
problems at the corporate level) to my Cable modem connection to prove that when folks can't hear me that my Linksys
Voip
router is transmitting the audio packets.
Not that the helpline tools would have any idea of what to do with this information if I shared it with them.

It's not the phone!!!
Having problems again today. Remote party hears echo of their voice, and cannot hear me.
I don't want to leave
Vonage
, but I don't know how much more of this I can take. Getting tired of making excuses to my (non-techie) wife.
Vonage... if you're listening... please acknowledge that there's a widespread problem and put some effort behind fixing it!!!!
There are people in this forum that have gone back to the old Telco's because of these problems. Anyone had better luck with a different
Voip
provider such as Packet8 or Broadvoice???

Post subject: 3com Sharkfin, RCA DCM305, RCA DCM425 cable modems
Hi, don't know if this will help anyone, but my experience.
Time Warner cable Los Angeles area (south bay)
3com Sharkfin - everything worked great (Oct 2004)
"upgrade" to RCA DCM305, they couldn't hear me, reboots and reset would help for a very very short period of time (mid March 2005)
another trip to time warner store - they had newer RCA DCM425 modem - all is working much better now
(mid April 2005)
setup:
cable --> RCA DCM425 --> ATA (motorola VT1000v) --> dlink di-524 --> home network

Post subject: Update.....
Well today is Monday the 18th of April and well it seems that something has been done. All day today service is back to normal. Perhaps it is a fluke but I would like to know the responses of others about their service as of today.
Thanks to all that respond. - Marty
