Hi,

I've noticed some of your have had some technical problems with Vonage. Some look as if they were fixed easily, some not so easy.

My parents pay way too much for their phone services. Vonage would solve that problem. But I'm worried they don't have the internet skills to maintain it without hassle.

They're in their mid-50s and they can solve their technical issues through the internet, but it's not their cup of tea.

Are my parents ready for Vonage, or should they wait for service to become better, more stable?

I tried to get my dad to use it, but hes too old fashioned

You can hook it up, set yourself up to be able to get to thier router via remote access. The can unplug and plug back in when reboots are needed.

Thats why they had you. Remember...to help them now.

My Dad's 80 and my Mom is 77. When they saw my Vonage system, they just had to have one. With a bit of help from me, via telephone, Mom set it all up, herself. When their number was (FINALLY!) ported, Dad went outside and unhooked the POTS service, and Mom plugged in a dual adapter so that they'd have service to the whole house. There were NO problems. Fortunately, Mom's a bit of a computer geek in her own right, staying on either her laptop or desktop machine several hours per day (I'd kill for her beautiful HP media center photosmart PC!).

By the way, I'm in the second half of my fifties, and I'm a network systems analyst. Not everyone over 30 is computer illiterate!

<sigh> I'm in your parents age bracket. Set it up with minimal hassle. If your parents managed the hassle of raising a teenager, trust me, they can handle Vonage.

Ok, if you guys think so, I think they'll be fine too. I've obviously offended some people associating "too old" with "mid-50s". They're also old-fashioned, but that's besides the point. I really used a poor choice of words. I'm not ignorant and I realize that I too will be 60, 70, etc.. Sorry, everybody.

You guys have helped me out a lot, though. Vonage isn't here in West Virginia yet (304).

I should have added that although my parents clock on their VCR has been flashing "12:00" since 1985, they had no problem with Woo Hoo-ing.

Smile

I don't think your parents are too old. I'm 65 and I don't consider myself too old for anything. If they have any problems setting it up you could help them with that, but if they are computer literate I doubt they will have any problems.
