Post subject: "Beeps" during calls
Callers have been hearing "beeps" when speaking to me on my
Vonage
line. (You don't usually hear it on the
Vonage
side, just on the other side) Now I remember reading a while back that this commonly occurs with female callers and it is a
Voip
issue. However, it seems to be happening more.
Does anybody else ever have callers complain about this issue? I am wondering if this is just a
Vonage
problem. My father in law has
Voip
from his local cable company, and he doesn't have this issue. At least not yet.
Thoughts??

But there is still no fix I guess. And from the explanation, it's probably not just a
Vonage
issue.

If a subpoena has been issued by a court of law allowing a telephone call to be recorded, a beeping sound must be placed on the line for the recorded person to hear. Furthermore, telephone recording devices also must produce a beeping sound even if you are recording your own conversation. Just one possibility.

No. It's just with female callers.

Disturbed, which codec/bandwidth setting are you using ? I have a different
Voip
provider, have never heard any beeps, and am using G711. I'm interested in whether this problem is more prevalent with those using compression codecs, like G729.

I am using the highest quality setting. I have no idea what codec I am using. Do I actually have control over that???

The highest quality is G711, so that rules out my theory. Yes, you control which codec is used via the bandwidth saver:
- highest quality: G711
- middle: G726
- lowest: G729
