Although I don't have a solution at this time I would like to note that I have been experiencing this issue since subscribing to Vonage service exactly 4 weeks ago. I have had 7 telephone Tech Support calls and numerous emails with Brian S., Tier III Engineer. The last email was today in which he claims that he is going to send me another adapter. Currently I am using the PAP2 which I exchanged at Circuit City last week just in case the unit was the problem. Prior to that I tried the unit in 3 different states, 4 ISP's, 4 routers, 6 telephone units and cords and the problem persisted.

In addition to the "beeping" I get a 15 second delay before the first ring and the first ring is a very short double ring,

I thought about cancelling the service before my free trial runs out but I was assured by the Tier III Tech that no matter when I choose to cancel I would not be charged. So, I will give it one more try with the new unit Vonage is sending then I guess I will have to cancel.

I will post the results as asap.

obviously they don't know the meaning of carrier quality. it's a problem in either their cheap hardware/software, or a problem in cheap Voip specs for the entire industry.

Being into amateur radio, we use DTMF tones to control VHF repeaters. Some repeaters are more sensitive to the DTMF tones. When my wife talks to me over the amatuer radio repeater sometimes she hits the right frequencies in her voice to simulate a DTMF. I have notice this same thing many times when she talks to me over our Voip connection.

This topic has been discussed in at least five other threads. I also heard the tones and had cases open with Vonage tech support for a month with no resolve. I finally got someone who actually understood what I was talking about. Initially I had the RT31P2 and the tech swapped it out for the new RTP300. I haven't heard a tone since. Now, my wife says she has, but I think she may have heard a call-waiting beep.

The thing I have stressed in every one of these threads is to, for god's sake, call Vonage tech support. If we all did that they'd see the pattern and pay a little more attention to this very widespread issue.
