I believe most if not all calls originate from New Jersey.
LD costs on PRIs are soooo cheap it probably doesn't make sense to have multiple data centers (except for redundancy). |

From packet dumps that I've done on my own network, it seems that it is partially distributed. If I call people from my line, the RTP (audio) streams are linked with the Vonage network in NJ.
When people call me, the connections come from Group Telecom servers here in Ottawa. This is also who has the registration on my Vonage line's NXX. They appear to be a division of Bell. Interesting, eh? |

Vonage is very much in NJ. |
Are there plans to place a gateway in Canada so that the problem calling some 800 numbers gets rectified? I have had several 1-800 numbers decline my calls because they are coming out of NJ. |

I called Vonage in July 2004 and they told me that they were working on a 1-800 server for Canada. Either their priorities have changed to focus more on the 911 situation, or they are still working on it and running into trouble. It's been over a year now and it still does not work. Your guess is as good as mine as to when 1-800 calls ever will work properly in Canada. |

If it makes a difference, I'd like to mention here that I want 1-800 service, and I'm in Canada. If Vonage expands service in Canada, with new infrastructure (by that I mean just better service through dedicated Canadian' stuff) then Vonage would make a killing. I understand also that the E911 issue is the big agenda right now, but hopefully in the future I'll se 1-800 service and caller ID features available.
In the meantime, Vonage is still great.
