I just moved into a house and would like to use my Vonage service with the existing wiring. I read the article from Michigan Telephone, but it didn't mention any connectors like this. I think this is something new from Qwest. Anyway, if someone can tell me how to unhook the phone company from it, that would be great! Sorry for the poor picture quality, but I don't have my digital camera unpacked yet, so I had to use the camera phone instead.

Here are a few shots of the inside of the Network Interface Unit:

I cant tell from the pictures, Is there an RJ-11 Phone Connector or is it just the blue/white wires that are punched in?

When you ask if there are connectors, where do you mean?

At this point, I cannot see any telephone plugs (RJ-11) in your NIC. Which can mean one of two things. Either your phone in your home is not connected to the phone company or it is connected directly to the solid blue/blue with white stripe wires. Is there some way for you to disconnect the solid blue/blue with white stripe wires from the swinging plastic piece where you finger is at? Do you see the four white rectangular pieces with 2 of them on the right side having a wire connected to each at the bottom? Can you disconnect them by pushing on the little white tab at all?

That would certainly disconnect your inside wiring from the outside line.

Do you even have phone service from your telephone company? If not, all of this work might be moot because normally there is a little phone plug (RJ-11; the ones you find at the end of your phone line) that will normally plug into the jacks you see to the left of the four white rectangular plastic pieces.

Anyway, it appears to me that your phone is not connected to a POTS line but just to be safe, try to unplug the two wires by pressing on the white tab. It looks like if you push up on them it will release the wires. Give it a try. Otherwise, you can also make sure that the phone line is dead by plugging a phone into one of your jacks.

Enjoy, Mundy5

Cut the blue wire. Not the white wire but the blue wire. Next, move the blue wire away from the white wire and secure it. Now cut the white wire and carefully secure it so as not to touch the blue wire. If the white wire and blue wire come in contact with each other, a thermonuclear blast, larger than anyone could possible image, would soon be felt and California would slip violently into the ocean. Good luck trooper. A nation is counting on you...

LOL, I can give you one of my <<< "Shorted Rj-11 ends" that is filled with C4. Once you insert it in your NIU. We can blow that puppy.

Only then can you be assured you will not incur damage to your Vonage Device.

I'm thinking maybe this needs to be unhooked. I'm guessing the plug at the end of the cap (on the right side with the gold terminals) is what connects those for lines to the house, when the cap is closed? Help is appreciated.
