Voip (or at least Vonage) isn't ready for prime time yet, in my opinion.
Is there any way to port a number AWAY from Vonage to another carrier? Has anyone ever tried?
Thanks. |

this post isn't ready for prime time either. besides the fact it's in the completely wrong forum, you also didn't specify whether it's a Vonage assigned number or a number ported from another carrier to Vonage. |

Sorry this post didn't meet your high standards of excellence. I'll try to do better next time, but maybe you should spank me anyway. Sheesh.
The number was a Vonage-assigned number. |

Yes it can be done, your new carrier will have to a winback, ie port the number from Vonage third party carrier that owns that number. You'll have to go to your new carrier and start a number port with them. It is out of Vonage's hands at this time. BTW these days Vonage will port out numbers they assigned. |

Unlike some of the other Voip carriers (AT&T for one), yes they will give you your number back. YOUR CARRIER (NOT YOU!) must request the port by emailing portout@vonage.com. It is also suggested that you maintain your Vonage account during the process as it will reduce the liklihood of rejection. |

Due to the poor phone quality (lost signals, one-way transmissions) I've been experiencing over the last few months, as well as getting no response from customer service, I am trying to switch back to a tradition phone line carrier.
I am trying to sign on with Comcast, but they say they cannot port a number from Vonage. They say I might be able to switch back to Verizon (my previous local carrier) then switch to Comcast and keep my number. This does not sound like a good plan, too many transfers.
Any ideas?
I will ask Comcast to e-mail a request to portout@vonage.com. Thanks for that info VonTageGal. |

Just saw a Vonage to Comcast portout completed yesterday. I have also seen Comcast reject ports TO Vonage in some areas but not all areas. Vonage->Comcast is like the proverbial "going from the frying pan into the fire." You think Comcast is a "tradition phone line carrier" ???? Lots O' Luck. | Reese wrote: | Due to the poor phone quality (lost signals, one-way transmissions) I've been experiencing over the last few months, as well as getting no response from customer service, I am trying to switch back to a tradition phone line carrier.
