OK, so I have no idea how this happened, but I was on hold with Vonage tech support calling about them not blocking 411 as advertised w/ international call block. Anyway, all the sudden I heard numbers being dialed. At first I thought it was someone else in the house, although, I never heard any phones being picked up. Anyway, I kept saying "Hello" and "I'm on the phone"... The numbers dialed, and then this guy started talking to someone like "yeah, I need my account info for my ISP, I can't login, yada yada." The weird part is, I tried talking to him, but he obviously couldn't hear me. I also was not able to hear whoever he was talking to, just him. I don't think he was talking to Vonage, because the 'isp' asked him to confirm his mothers maiden name. Talk about a "bug" in Vonage...he had no idea I was listening. After being on hold w/ Vonage for 10+ minutes, I got a tech finally and told the tech about it. He said they'd check their PBX, but I'm reasonably convinced this guy was NOT talking to Vonage tech support. Anyone ever had this happen?

sounds like an old fashioned case of picking up the cordless phone signal from next door. this would explain why you couldn't talk to him and why you just heard his voice (and if you don't know it's because you're picking up the handset transmit frequency as opposed to the phone base frequency.)

Wonder if the conversation was "cross talk" from the POTS portion of the call. I believe when you call Vonage, the call does not stay on the Voip network and is transferred to their toll-free lines.

I'm ruling out the cordless option, because all the cordless phones in my house are digital w/ code hoping, etc. I've never had any problems with neighbors. Plus I live in a reasonably rural area, so the nearest neighbors cordless handset is not likely to reach my house anyway.

As for the cross talk, it must have been a copper problem. I certainly can't think of how SIP could have gotten transposed!! Wink

The weirdest part about it was, when the Vonage tech picked up, the other conversation went away. Maybe something on their end was confused.

I had the same thing happen to me about a month ago when I called Vonage. I have a regular wired phone that is directly attached to the rap300. It happened while I was talking to the Vonage tech. The tech heard it too, but the lady who was using the line that was crossed with ours cound not hear us.
