Hi,

This question may have been asked but the difference will be I am speaking for my SPECIFIC circumstance.

I would like to know how I would go about getting all setup if I buy equipment from Best Buy?

1.)First I should ask what exactly do I need, a router or a phone adapter or both? Are they one in the same? If I already have a Netgear router for my wireless internet do I need to purchase a Linksys router?? What is the difference between the pap2 and the rt31p2??

2.)Now once get whatever I need from paragraph one, how easy will it be to install? I am on comcast cable, I do not have a regular home phone (just a cell). Do I need to have the phone wires hooked up or something? It sounds like you cant use your home jacks unless you've already had a landline phone?? Also need to add that I am in an apartment, does that matter at all?

I ask how easy it will be because reading this site I am all confused. I am not that tech savy and so if I have to alter /this/ dns and change /that/ ip address, I will be so lost. Cry

Please dont let my newbie status stop you from helping me. Embarassed

I'm not sure of the process for activation, but it is simple.

Actually, if you have Vonage ship the modem, you can return it at the end of your usage for a refund. Save the shipping boxes.

Setup is simple, just plug the modem into the comcast box, and give it time to boot up. (see the instructions) You don't need anything else except a phone handset. Your PC and router are attached behind the Vonage box. For the retail (best buy) modem, see the instructions.

Vonage does bill only to a credit card, but most checking accounts have a debit card available, this is acceptable for signup and billing.

1) Pap2 is a just a phone adapter whereas rt31p2 is both a phone adapter and a router combined. You already have a router, so the Pap2 will be fine for you. Of course, the rt31p2 will also work, though it is not necessary. Also, you mentioned that you have a wireless network, therefore you will need to keep your router (since the rt31p2 is not wireless). That should cover what equipment you need.

2) Setup is trivial, can be done in 10 minutes, no ip this and dns that required. You do not need to have a landline connected. In fact, to the contrary, if you did have a landline, you would have to disconnect it before using the jacks in your home for Vonage.

So to actually set it up, in your case, just plug the pap2 into a port on your router and then plug it into one of your phone jacks and you are done.

Had existing home network. Bought PAP2 at Best Buy, went to Vonage web site to sign up (just follow the simple instructions), plugged in my cordless phone system to PAP2, connected PAP2 to open port on switch, PAP2 booted and was making calls 5 minutes later! Service has been great.
