With all of the people that are now complaining about this same problem with one side of the conversation being muted, I would have to say that I believe that Vonage has an issue, and there is not a probelm with my equipment.

I have had this problem since last Thursday. At first, I though it had to do with Vonage doing an upgrade of my router to version 1.30.01, but now I am not so sure since so many others are having the same problem with different equipment.

This is the 3rd thread I have found about this recent problem. Just search for my username and you will see where we have been discussing it elsewhere....

I have tried to contact Vonage a couple of times, but I don't have the patience or time to wait more than 30 mintues and hang up and come back here to see if anything new had developed.

Has anyone gotten through to Vonage about this problem? If so, what did they say? Did you tell them that their forum is showing many others with the same problem recently?

The problem went away for me Monday night, but then it happened again last night. So...I'm right where I started.

Thanks,
Butch

I have had Vonage now since the end of 2000, and a long time ago I did have the same exact problem. I would make/receive a call, and after a little while (it would always be a different amount of time) the other person would not hear me at all, even though I heard everything.

I use Optimum Online in CT, and had a cable modem since Jan 2000 (I think it was an 3Com) and the problem was the modem. I had read (after searching) a while ago that some people had cable modems that would just drop packets (or something like that) very quickly and it would completely disrupt the call, even though the Vonage box still maintained a "connection". Anyway, I replaced the cable modem with a new webstar DPC2100 and have never had another problem since then. That was all I changed and the problem went away.

Hope that helps someone...

I have noticed this once, on November 28th. I live in SE North Dakota.

I have great Cable internet, 3500K DL, and 256K UL... Rock solid.

I have never had this issue before with my Vonage service, and have only noticed it once, and for only about 15 seconds with the party I was talking to. Had it not been for this thread, I would have thought nothing of it, and blamed his phone connection!

Any more info on this? I hope it does not become more of an issue!

Nothing new from my end.

I still have the problem about once a night. I still have not had the patience to wait for more than 20 minutes on hold with Vonage. I'm afraid I will get them on the phone, and the problem will happen, and they will hang up on me because they can't hear me. That would make me REAL MAD then!

Keep us up to date if you hear anything.

Thanks!
Butch

In the lamest internet "me too" fashion, I'd just like to add that I have also started experiencing this problem a couple weeks ago.

Other than "my girlfriend keeps getting pissed at me about it" I have nothing to add. Wink

I've been experiencing this problem for a couple of weeks. I tried lowering the BW with no results. This happens to me all the time and is becoming very frustrating. I signed up for Vonage in March and it has been rock solid until now.

I'm running WRT54GP2 Firm: 1.30.00
Voice Version 3.1.6 (Li).

To be honest, I think the WRT54GP2 is junk!

i had a similar problem, and i took my wireless router out of the mix, and the "auto-mute" stopped for me. i had to port forward the ports that Vonage uses to my phone adapter. i know this is an easy fix, just wanted to share. i don't know if it will help anyone else but try to remove your hardware and just use the Vonage box and see what happens.

We are also having the same problem. The RTP300 is not plugged into a wireless router although there IS one on the same network. We just keep calling until the other person can hear. Sad

Same thing happening to me with the person on the other end not being able to hear me and then the connection is lost. One thing that happens to me that I have not heard from others is that there is a noise that starts - not unlike the old style rotary phone clicking.

Did all the test and they say I should be good to go. PAP2 and Linksys BEFSX41 router. I reduced my BW on the Vonage site and unplugged my wireless AP.

Yesterday I talked to my daughter in WI for over 30 minutes with no problem - today within 15 min. it was acting up and once it starts - it takes around 5 minutes before we can even make another call.

I've been dealing with his problem now since mid-November - and I've outlined all the attemped resolutions here at this other posting.

Our service was fine for several months until this cropped up in mid-Nov - we're in the Raleigh area of NC.

In all the threads I have read, regarding this issue, I see that the single variable that may be the ultimate problem is the service that the ISP is providing - or the internet traffic. Not my phone, not my router, network, VioP device - the internet. I only have one cable provider to choose from - so switching is no option.

Since no one can control the variable and I don't understand the way Voip works (point-to-point) what options do I have? Eat crap and go back to a land line? Can't Vonage's systems compensate somehow for the reduction in band width?

I'm just glad my calls are to family and friends - and not for business purposes.
