Well, I think I really did it now... I was following the directions from one of the forum posts -- to configure the RT31P2 to work with the BEFSR41 -- and when it said "enter the MAC address from you existing router," I assumed it meant my BEFSR41, but when I did that and saved the changes, I could no longer access the configuration interface for the Voip router.
Am I screwed???

Hey meantone,
You can try hitting the reset button on the back of the device that you can no longer access. This will reset the router back to factory default settings. You will lose any config changes that you made but you will then be able to access the device again. |

Thanks.
I tried that and unplugging and rebooting, but no change still can't access.
I'm not getting a good feeling about this. |

try this reset if you haven't yet: unplug power, unplug phone cords, push and hold reset button, plug power back in while holding reset button, keep holding reset button for 15 seconds after powering back on. keep an eye on the power light, and don't plug the phones back in (or power the box off) until it stops blinking. |

unplug everything and plug your computer into your Voip router only.. don't even plug in the internet or anything but make sure your other route isn't plugged in.. Now try and access the Voip router, you should be able to since the conflict with the other one doesn't exist, then change the MAC addy.. |

Wow, thanks for all the great responses. But when the going gets tough, the tough get desparate, so I called Vonage.
All I can say is that these guys are great. Not only did they stay on the line until my entire network was configured and working, but it was all done on a Sunday morning. I dare you to try and equal that kind of service from another vendor.
To add closure to the thread, Vonage tech support had me change my subnet to that of the new router (192.168.15.1) via local tcp/ip network connections, which then allowed me to access the Voip router. There were a few more things we did and discussed, but sufice to say I ended up using the RT 31P2 as my sole router and retired my BEFSR41.
Now that I've got this all working, my next task is to investigate alternatives to the Toshiba PCX1100 cable modem. |

just fyi on the cable modem thing. that's actually more of a comcast problem. the issue with that modem is isp correctable, and comcast never corrected it. time warner did however. I have roadrunner and used the pcx1100 for the majority of my time on Vonage. I now have a motorola sb5100 that everyone (on comcast) loves and haven't noticed a difference yet. |
