PostPosted: Sat Apr 09, 2005 7:50 pm    Post subject: [HELP!] RT31P2 -> Gateway -> Wireless Router -> Int Reply with quote Back to top

I share an internet connection with my neighbor & we split the bill. I connect to their wireless router from my computer through a Wireless Networking connection.

My computer has dual networking, a secondary NIC that a computer can be connected to for home networking, etc.

What I hope to do is have my connection look like this:

RT31P2 ---> Gateway running XP ---> Linksys BEFW11S4 ---> Internet

I have tried several different configurations but nothing I am doing seems to work. Please help!!

You need to post what you have done so far to make this work.

No problem.

1) I connect the jack from the WAN port on the RT31P2 to the Marvell Yukon Gigabit Ethernet port on My Computer.

2) I connect a jack from my second PC to ethernet port #1 on the RT31P2

3) I turn internet connection sharing on for the wireless connection on My Computer

4) I enable the ethernet port on the second PC (so I can log into the RT31P2 to configure it)

5) I log into the RT31P2 and disable NAT and Advanced Routing

6) From here I have tried cloning the MAC address of the Wireless Router to the RT31P2 and I have tried changing the IP address of the RT31P2. I have also tried plugging the #1 Ethernet Connection on the RT31P2 into My Computer (the gateway), #2 into the second PC, and #3 into the WAN (as suggested in another thread)

None of this has worked.

Try connecting wan port on RT31P2 to port 1 on RT31P2 and then port 2 on RT31P2 to your internet sharing PC.

The internet connection sharing PC needs to be assigned an IP address. Do I need to turn Dynamic Routing back on or should I set a static IP?

Give static IP's to the RT31P2 as well. You can have a static IP on your PC if you want.

On the Setup page of the RT31P2, should I have "Obtain an IP Automatically" set or do I need to set it to "Static IP" and mirror the information on the wireless router? I'm a little confused by that part because I have the WAN jack connected to Jack #1 on the RT31P2.

On the Internet Connection Sharing box, I have set the static IP address of 192.168.15.101. That seems to work fine in getting the ICS box to connect to the RT31P2, but it kills my wireless connection.

is the RT31P2 getting an IP from DHCP? check the RT31P2 status page and then Router and see what the internet IP is.

Can you connect to the internet from a pc connected to the RT31P2?

1) The RT31P2 is assigning an IP to the Shared Internet Connection computer and to the Secondary PC. It is not assigning one to itself in the routing table.

2) Every time I enable the Shared Internet Connection on my computer, I lose my connection to the internet. So, in answer, no I cannot connect to the internet through the PC connected to the RT31P2

the problem I keep running into is that the Shared Internet Connection PC is assigning an IP to the router, the router is assigning the same IP, but they are not communicating. I can't even ping the machine. I am giving up hope. I think this is an impossibility. What a waste of money...ugh..
