I am trying to see how
Vonage
is better than the MCI neighborhood plan
I pay $39.00 for. The bottom line is you are going to pay the same or more with
Vonage
because you have to pay the local phone company for that basic line to get dsl. In the case of cable I can see the savings by going over the cable modem. I don't see the savings with dsl...and lots of taxes to pay on that dsl connection also.

It seems to me that with DSL the best thing is to be able to get an extra line (a second line, etc) at reduced cost.
For me on cable, getting rid of my POTS entirely will save me some serious bucks.

Right you are! It doesn't make sense. But, I'm on cable-modem and find
Vonage
is the only way to fly! Pays to do some heavy evaluating, eh?

Using
Vonage
with DSL doesn't make sense to me for that reason. Besides, DSL tends to have lower upload speeds than cable for the same amount of money. I have cable and no POTS line. No problems so far.
