Let me first say that I have already tried searching the forums for the answer to this question, but did not find anything. Maybe I'm searching with the wrong terms...anyways...

I am buying a new house in May, and I am preparing to make the jump to broadband internet (from Qwest dial-up) and Vonage (from Qwest/ATT) in one leap. So, I won't even have to signup with Qwest, which makes me really happy. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I am trying to plan the day where my cable will be activated, and I was just wondering how long it takes to get Vonage activated? The minute that I have broadband working in my new home, can I go signup on the Vonage website and have service immediately? Or, does it take the usual Qwest-like week or so to flip the switch? I bought the Linksys WRT54GP2 wireless router w/Vonage built-in, so I don't need their phone adapter (but will probably get it anyways in case I travel). Just wondering how soon I can expect Vonage phone service after I get my broadband internet.

In your case it would be considered a retail activation. It took me about 10 minutes to go through the retail activation part and have my service running.

After that it took 12 days for my number to get LNPED.

What does LNPED mean?

Also, on a separate note, when I get a new phone number from Vonage, is this new number listed in telephone books, or do they give you an option for an unlisted number?

They give u the option for unlisted. LNP is basically porting of your current number to Vonage.

Took me 10 mins to buy the PAP2. Activated online, that took about 10 mins (I had to copy and paste the contract). Actual install of PAP2 to my network was 20 mins. It was a painless experience.

You should be aware that each device has it it's own phone number, so if you do get the other phone adapter, you would need to sign up for another line of service for it to work. In other words, you would have two separate Vonage accounts with two different phone numbers. Therefore, if you want to be able to take your "local" number with you when you travel ,you would have to take your Linksys WRT54GP2 with you, as any other Vonage adapter would have a different phone number.

LNP'ed= refers to "porting" one's phone number over to Vonage. Not really applicable in your case, as you will be getting a brand new number from Vonage.

Your Vonage number will not be listed in any phone books, anywhere. You will, in effect, have an unlisted/ unpublished phone number.

Not true about listing...I just did a search for myself on Whitepages.com....I found me...correct number and all...but this could be left over from before I went to Vonage in Feb....
